MAY DEFERBUILDING OF NEW HOSPITAL
On account of the prevailing high cot nf building- material, the proposed Methodist Episcopal hospital may not be erected until some future time, it was announced today in Gary. In going over the bids that were submitted Tuesday evening- members of the Ical committee found that the total runs far in excess of expectations. Tt was originally thought that the building culd be erected for approximately $2.i0.(ioo r,ut the bids reached the $325,000 mark. Testerday the bids were sent to the state hospital board of the Methodist church for consideration and just what action Is taken by that board dpnds upon the future of the building. The state board has, agreed to furnish loans amounting to one-half of the total cost if Gary raised $100,000. Of this amount here !s about $50,000 in the local fund. As aoon as the building is ready for erection, the Gary Land company will furnish a site at corner of Grant and Sixth avenue. Whether the local comm.ttee. will re-advertise for bids or whether the project will be abandoned until the future, will probably be made
public as soon as word is received from
the state board.
