jS Th spirit of reconstrnction ". Er.matic Canada to repair as quickly as possible the loss and 5 vrreck of war is typified in the 1.,, rebaildinp, more beautiful than -jfe before, of the frreat Dominion PArliainent building ia Ottawa
From the completion of the old buildinjr, the cornerstone of which was laid by the Prince of Wales in 1800, up to its destruction during the present war. it was the crowninjr architectural feature of the capital city, standing oa the summit of
Parliament Hill, whose lime Ftone bluffs rise 150 feet sheer from the river passing through the city. The central tower of the building rose li0 feet from the ground. Opinion is undecided as to whether or not the explosions and subsequent fire which destroed this magnificent structure was the result of a German plot. At any event, all the efforts of the fire fighters were of no avail Now a new parliament house has risen from the ashes and will be a worthy monument to the r.ew era of reconstruction in Canada. The new building is nearly completed with the exception of the main tower, whic'i will stand at the intersection of th walls. The Prince of Wales will dedicate the new parliament building with appropriate ceremonies while on his vi?it c Canada and ths United States this August.
