By JACK VEIOCK (International News Sport Editor.) LOS ANHKMiS, Calif.. July 22. Jack Dempsey will be champion of the world for a l.mg. long tune. The new boss ..f the heavyweight lias everything mci-ssary to the successful title holder, from outh to the most wicked punch ever packed by a champion in any division. Twentv-four years old. a two-handed, sure-footed. , ool-hended battler 'run the soles of his feet to the crown of his heii.!. Iii-mpsey possesses all the qualifier tions that hav.- combined to make champions of the past. Former champs have been noted for tins or th.it virtue as tighter. Some have been l iever. siio hmc Peen terrific hitters with at least one hand: some have been superior r;ng generals and WillHrd. they say. wa. too big to be heaten. I'enipsey is b;g enough to take rare of any opponent tiny d'g up for him. He is clever in his peculiar way, but his 8M-e.it speed in attacking his opponents covers up his cleverness He has learned trout meetig all tvpes "f battlers and boxers, every hook and crook of offense and defense Nothing thai an opponent can spring on him serves as a surprise and nothing will until some day when the right kind of bird comes along the tight -"i who is to uncrown t lie- new champion To our way. of thinking there is but one opponent in l'empsey's pathway now who h.is a chance with him. liny, go page old Kid Bright Light and ask him how- many hampions he has beaten. The Old Kid. as we were about to say, is the only battler in the world today who has a ghost of a show against Oempsey and from what we know- of Jack. Old Man Bright Lights w-ill get a distinctly cold shoulder. Dempsey is a hig. happy, friendly bo. He has knocked about the- country for a number of years and has had plenty of opportunities to pla.v Old Bright Lights forty was from a Jack. But he has passed up the gay old bird because he doesn't se-e anything in his line that appeals." They say Georges C'arpr-nter or Joe Beckett might surprise the new champion. We don't believe it. Carpentier would be in luck to stay three rounds with Demps.-y'.H bone-crushing rights and lefts showering upon him with punishment Billy Bapke. outweighel by Carpentier. heat him when he was supposed to he at the top of his form. Joe Jeanette gave him all he could handle and the only man of title or near-title timber he has beaten decisively is Bombardier "Wells No. Carpentier had better pick up all the loose Chang" in sight before he meets lempsey. It will be better so. Joe Beckett, the rugged new British champ, is said to be more of a puncher than Carpentier. He is mope of the Billy Miske type in build and

r.hiltty to assimilate punishment. He might linser a hit longer with Jack, but it U our guess that he would take a terrible beating in any case over any number of rounds. On this side of the water we have possibly two battlers who may exchange punches with the new king. One is W illie Meehan. Frisco battler, who once took a four-round decision from Jack and who has been cashing ii ever since. In all liklihood Meehan will be I'ernpsey's next American opponent, and it is our hunch that the. i-ports will be betting on the number of rounds he'll last. Miske. the only battler who has stood up with Pempsey over the tenround route since Jark came Into his own as a si-rapper, is a tough egg and may figure as a drawing card with the new champ. But whether or not Miske wants any of Dempsey's game now that Ja k Is the champion is questionable. If ve remember correctly Miske recently admitted that he isn't ready just jet to have relatives collecting his insurance. He knows best.
