Novel Event Is Staged for July 4th Athletic Carnival at Gary. Two men will travel far to Gary July 4th, eager to settle an old score. They

are crack hore shoe pitchers and have been rivals for years. They work for

rival concerns and when the duo gt together, close to 60.000 working people intensely interested in the outcome. One of the horse shoe pitchers Is 72 yars old and is champion of Ohio. His name is Hugh E. Palmer and is a machinist employed by the B. F. Goodrich Co. of Akron. O. Win. Veis Is the other half of th pair of bitter rivals. Weis is 35 and ia a foreman at the Goodyear Tire A Rubber Co. Three years ago, Weis won the championship of Summits county and numbered among hts victims was white haired Hughie Palmer. The latter was eager to win that title and he practiced daily for a year for a meeting that was bound to follow. In the championships of the following year Palmer won and since then he has had the "number" of his yqounger opponent. Palmer tries his hand with the state champion last Xovember. Fred Eachm if Galilipolis. O.. and Fred lost eleven straight games to the old gentleman. When the national horse shoe pitching championships were held at St. Petersburg. Fla.. last February. Weis and Palmer were there and both primed for the other. Palmer lost two of three games to his deadly rival but finished In third place in the. championships

Horse shoe pitching is a great noon hour game in the industries and is being fostered by the American Industrial Athletic association, which organization is conducting the gigantic meet on the national holiday.

business yesterday. Mrs. Fred FTsher. who has been In poor health for several years, died at hr home here yesterday afterqoon. She has been a resident of the south part of the county for many years, being one of the early settlers. She leaves to mourn her her husband, four daughters. Mrs. Bert Craft. Mrs. Charles Miller. Mrs. John A. Taylor end Mrs. Elery Corning; one son. Albert Fisher. The children all reside in Lowell. Funeral services will be held at the M. E. church Saturday.
