BM Em (FROM THE TIMES OWN TIMES BUREAU AT STATE CAPITAL) INDIANAPOLIS. Ind.. June 2. lieutenant Governor E. D. Bush was In the race for the Republican nomination for governor the other day for a few minutes, and then he took himself out. AVhether he Is out or in to stay remains to be seen. He has not yet made up his mind, so he says. There was a story in one of the Indianapolis papers the other day from Salem, which is Bush's home town, stating that he was a candidate and that hat was in the ring. Te announcement hat was in the ring. The announcement iticians. Some of them laughed witn loud and harsh guffaws, because they did not believe Bush would cut any figure. But there were others who professed to see in his candidacy something to be desired. And then the second dispatch came from Salem. It said that the fir.'t announcement was made without hi knowledge, and that he had not mad up his mind what he would do. It is evident, however, that the be is about to sting Bush good and hard in a vulnerable spot and start him to dancing the "Nomination Jazz." Bush said if he went lo he would have as his platform opposition to centralized government. He insists that the present governor is too much the whol thins, and that he doe3 not believe in this plan. Bush had his experience with Governor. Goodrich and the state organization during the session of the legislature last winter. A good many persons feel that Bush unconsciously allowed himself to be used as a tool by the opposition to the present stat administration who REPLY IS EXPECTED IN WEEK Continued from psg. one.) crept a conception of the contrast represented in the mighty forces there at work. At the foot of the table the Austrian envoys repreBented a nation that is crushed and helpless and is partly caught in the swirl of anarchy. At the head of the table sat the delegates representing the. most powerful combination of nations the world has ever known: America, Great Britain, France, Italy and Japan. Although th French have been providing quarters and food the Austrian have been complaining that they were unable to maintain the individual expense of fifty francs ($10) a day. The thought that was uppermost was that Austria will certainly be-well punished for acting as the catspaw of Prussia. Premier Clemenccau was the first to address the meeting, gesticulating with a hand encased in a while glove. The speech was short and forma!. AVhile M. Clemenceau was speaking. Premier Lloyd-George sat twirling h'.s eye-glasses, a characteristic posture. The president tapped the table at times with a gold lead pencil. The Austrians followed th words of the French premier, especially Slaiin. who tugged nervously at his ragged beard as he leaned forward watching the speaker. As soon as Clemenceau had concluded. Capl. Manteau. the official interpreter trarslated the address. The treaty had 'already been printed into a yellow ba-k-j ed volume, and , after the trensiation was completed. Gen. Dutasta. the sfcreJ tary. grimly marched the length of the room and presented a copy to the Austrians. Premier Clemenceau began his speeclj at 12.23 o'clock and it was significant to note that it was not marked by the sam bitterness of tone he employed in addressing the Germans at Versailles. Althou;--:i formal it was not couched in sharp Isntruage and he addressed the Austrian as: "Delegates of the Austrian republic." The premier explained that while there would additions to the treaty, they would be handed over as soon as possible. The premier spoke Just 13 minutes. After M. Dutasta had delivered the terms at 12:36 o'clock Dr. Renner arose, bowed and stood while reading the Austrian reply. This conduct was in coi-. trast with that of Count von Brockdorff-Rantzau. head of the German delegation, who remained seated while replying to Clemeanceau at Versailles, j

IfsDWHAPiiiS BUREAU) hoped to embarass the governor and his legislative program. But Bush and his ! friends have insisted thit Bush himself was the victim of politioal trickery and that there was a plain attempt to ignor" him entirely In connection with the legislature. So there you are. .If Bush becomes a candidate for governor the fact will not have any appreciable effect on the candidacy of Will H. Hays. That appears to be well understood. Those who are for Hays will be for him aga:nst all candidates and cannot be swerved by the entrance of anyone into the race. On the , other han-i. Bush as a candidate probably would draw some support .that might, go to another candidate in case he remained out.. Those who would be for Bush would not be for Hays if they had any ' nthp candidate. !
