HAMMOND DISCUSSES BALL TEAM
Fans Licking Their Chops for Next Sunday's Go With the Magnets. Baseball seems to be Hammond's livo topic right now and Hammond's team . furnishing: food for conversation and speculation !n more, places than Ham;oond. In r me of these places it is causing: no little worry. Buckeye's great record of striking out twenty m- n no wffks au still h.s them poinj in Hamr.H'Pii and 1'nic.ivo crd rlg'it n t p of this Manas"r Xi.rf I s-'ipped in hai n an by the :ame of Baichley who last Sunday held those snappy Dodger Training lads to one lone hit for eight Innings. Ar.d now Nagel's going to tackle those Magnets next Sunday. Maybe he is making a mistake in stacking: up against this bunch of ex-leaguers but Nagel thinks not. Fans can't figure out why he insists upon booking the toughest teams so early in the season. His doctrine is "Get while Rutin's good" and so far he has "got." It is bringing results. At the weekly meeting of the managers of the Chicago league Monday evening he was besieged for games by managers from PeKalb. Aurora. Elgin. Morris. Iteloit and Kenosha, all of whom are in the league and have lost one or more games. To see Hammond win another pennant would be a bitter pill for those Chicago boys to swallow as they still recollect 1317. Managers marvel at the fact that Hammond carries two first class rltchers of either Buckeye or Baichley could have been sold a dozen times in the last two weeks. Xagel believes any team starting with two such pitchers supported by players like "Walsh. Wallace. Kennedy. O'Neil. Calen and Blank who hit when runs are needed has the bulge on opposing: teams not slmiliarly equipped. Manager Kaplin of the Magnets Is

fairly outdoing himself for next Sunday's game at Hammond. Think of semi-pro team having in its lineup Kommers. formerly of Pittsburgh. Scanlon, recently with Brooklyn. Buchart of Minneapolis fame 'and lastly George Pierce. Pierce, known to all Hammond fans through his years with the Cubs, will pitch, according to information received from Kaplin. In fact the whole team is made up of big league men. The brand of ball which will be shown by these two lineups should be well worth the money and rooting force of anv Hammond fan.
