V. t5. seaplane NC-4 was on the beach near the naval air station this morning. Prospects wera that the airmen would "hop off" Cape Cod today. A high north wind was blowiing. It Came Un the wake of the northwest storm that lashed the coast for several days, holding- the NC-4 here stormbound. Weather forecast. however, indicated that the wind racing; at SO miles an hour this morning, would subside during- the morning, permitting the aviators to "hop off." The flight of the NC-4 from nockaway Beach, L. I., to Halifax, N. S.. on the first leg of the trans-Atlantic flight with the NC-1 and NC-S, was Interfered with by motor trouble. Sines putting in a new motor has been installed on the NC-4 and today Lieut. Commandeed A. C. Reed of East Lyme, X. H., in command of the aircraft was prepared to "skip" off to join the NC-1 and NC-3 at the end of the second leg of the overseas flight.

NEW POSTOFFICE FOR E. CHICAGO IN FUTURE
Postmaster Charles B. Donovan, Jr., postmaster at East Chicago, is authority for the statement that on or about July 1st, the substation now in the Given building at the corner of Todd and Chicago aves. will be moved into the new building now under process of erection on Forsythe avr.. just south of the Hartley Theatre building. This is the .birllUine being put up by Mat Dombkowski. The post office has been located in the. Given tuiidniK for the past ten or twelve years and to many of the citizens in that end of the city seems almost like a permanent fixture. For some time, howeer, tho quartern there have been too small for the largely Increased volume of business. The new building will afford an ideal site and will furnish very fine quarters. In one field visited the disease wa. present in such severity that most of the plants were stunted or dead with only an occasional normal plant; Riving the field a very ragged appearance. The diseased plants from such fields are cha racter'.zed by a dark brown discoloration and soft rotting of the leaf sheathes which, as the disease iproRroses, penetrates to the stem and finally causes the latter to rot off at the. crown. The plants tend to send out more shoots which result In a thick rosette of short shoots. The diseased plants also have a darker green col -r than the healthy ones. Kvery farmer in Lake county should inspect his wheat fields at once and report any suspected trouble to V. A. Place, county agricultural agent. Spec. Iments should be furnished the County Agent also wherever possible. Immediate action Is urged in this important matter.

Edward Crowley, of Chicago, and Joe Matthews, of Gary, arrested in Hammond yesterday for assault with intent to kill and accused of being implicated in the robbery of Joe Cochattl, 519 Olcott ave.. E. Chicago, were released from custoday this morning before Judge T. Klotz in Hammond city court. The men were defended by W. W. McMahon. and the case against them was nolle proasej because of the lack of evidence. Cochattl was robbed of money and Liberty bonds while on a street car, and the case presented many difficulties to the state because of the great trouble In getting evidence that will stick In dip cases.
