(FROM THE TIMES' OWN INDIANAPOLIS BUREAU)
(TIMES BUREAU AT STATE CAPITAL INDIANAPOLIS. Ind., ilay 13.; rians wer made at a meeting' held at h9 P.epubilrau state headquarters, yesterday, for opening Republican woman's headquarters in connection with Tho headquarters of the state commlt!e within a short time. A secretary will be appointed and the campaign work of the women will be conducted and directed from that place. However. It will not be separate and distinct organization. It was decided that the women should "sit in" the political game with the men in this state, rerus under the new law they are entitled to vote for presidential electors at the next presidential election, which will be held in November, 1920. For this reason, no woman state chairman wil be chosen. The entire direction ot i he campaign w ill be done by the state "mmittee. An executive committee of Republican women to work in conjunction with the state executive committee and the .:ate committee was appointed some time ego. It consists of Mrs. Edwin A. Torrance, of Eansville; Mrs. Charles Arthur Carlisle, of South Bend: Mrs.
E. A. Gould, of Peru; Miss Mae Helmer. of Terre Haute, and Mrs. Joseph B. Kealing, of Indianapolis. All of these women, with the exception of Mrs. Torrance, attended the conference held yesterday. Others rresent were State Chairman Edmund A. Wasmuth, of Huntington; JL. W". Jnley, secretary of the state committee, and James A. Hemenway, of Boonville, national committeeman fro Indiana. All of these conferees agreed that It would be better to have the women fully represented with the regular state committee than to have them organize separately. Thus all will work in the closest harmony. Mrs. Kealing was chosen to preside at meetings of the women's executive committee, however. The members of the women's executive committee were invited to attend a conference of Republican state chairmen at 'Washington May 22 and 23. Secretary Henley lias gone to New York for a couple of weeks in connection with the work of the Republican national committee. It is generally understood that he is to have a prominent and responsible connection with that commute, under Will H. Hays, national chairman.
