soldier boys when a much more Cttinp memorial in a form that would keep it constantly In the inds of the people could and should be had? Hammond needs a municipal iwlmmlrg pool and

a centrally located rest room and a comfort station. Hammond also needs to do somethin?: as a memorial to those of her sons wlio went over there for the cause of democracy. AVhy not combine the needs and with the impetus cf the enthusiasm for a fitting memorial for our soldiers get the ball to rolling- and rals the funds for a real monument that will be so useful to this and future generations that' it will never be disregarded and visited or.ly by a few descendents of the soldiers as is the case cf many a shaft erected or the gallant men of the civil war. A municipal building combining rest and reading- rom, bath and swimming pool, and the much needed comfort station, whether erected through taxation orf by popular subscription, would be a lasting memorial and In our humble opinion a most fitting one. W"e have been greatly troubled of

late by groups of boys hiking without'

adult leadership. We do not for an instant pretend that we can control the boys nor prevent them from doing 'his but let us say to all Scouts It is contrary to the policy of Scoutcraft for Scouts to hike In groups and .Scouts except with adult supervision. Tnis does not Include specially arranged hikes for First Class Scouts whom we trust because of their training rnd responsibility. Hut it does mean that boys who wish to go off by themselves and start fires, etc., should not

wear Eccut insignia nor claim to be on a ficout hike unless such hike is in charge of a responsible Scout leader, who Is cither a commissioned officer or Troop Committeeman, etc. "We are in grave danger of losing the right to use the Clay Ilole property because of the cutting of growing trees and tha burning of wood sawed by the owner. This vandalism was comimtted by a group of boys who went out without the Ifnowledge" of their Scoutmaster. We must warn all Scouts that such offenses will cause the recall of the credentials of the offenders. FOREST PRESERVE. The forest preserve of Cook county. 111., is available for hiking and camping provided that no living trees nor shrubs be cut or destroyed. It is requested that wild flowers be left as they will soon be picked and their beauty Is lost. Kites may be built provided that only dead wood is used and that they are completely rut out before leaving.

Scouts are urged to obey these regulations and to aid in seeing that th rights of the forest are maintained.
