The deliverance of the Jews from tins threat of annihilation, has ever been celebrated as the 'Feast of Purim." The "Feast of Purim" never Pttained as high a degree of spiritual Influence, as did some of the other festivals. The usual Psalms of praise read on other holidays are omitted on "Purlin." The one characteristic of Purim ritual Is the rending of the "Hook of Ksther." .luring the evening and mornlnsr services. As a folk-celebration Purim made up for whatever Influence it may have lacked as a religious festival. It was celebrated as a carnival. maks were worn by obi and young. Purim plays were given I f-ene--tir.tr th story of Taman ami Ksther. In addition to this merry celebration of Purim there arose the custom of (Eivln.tr srifts to the poor. Kvery Jew. no matter how poor would give something to some one more needy than himself, and so the day of popular rejoicing was touched with the elevating spirit of benevolence. The children of the IVnai Israel Hebrew School will celebrate furtm on Sunday at 1 r- ri. They will send gifts to one another on this occasion. The Rabbi will preside. On Sunday evening at 8 o'clock a Pu:m Ball will be given at the Auditorium by the F"nal Israel Zion Auxiliary. Many novel features will be introduced. McKelvy's orchestra will play. An invitation Is extended to the public to come and dance. The. B. C.
