LAKE CO. MEN BEFORE BOARD
nv It. V 6. IK EH. International Service Staff or respondent. INDIAXAPOIJS, March 5. Is the ftato legislature of Indiana going to adopt the tactics used in the Congress o the United f-'tates senate duiing the closing days of the aeventy-flrst cession of the leg lsilature, by methods similar to thu-i used to defeat Important b.llu L'ffoic the national congress? Thifc is the question being asked around tho corridors and in the cloakrooms of the state house today and this question was brought up because cf the postponement of important bills by both the house and senate. The senate postponed action on the ta.x reform bill, while the house advanced Iho time for consideration of the specific appropriation bill, when It cam up for special order of business, and then spent hours on minor measures. A number of important measuiei. including republican platform bills remain to be disposed of in the f"w remaining days of the legislature, and they may die wi-.h the session, if the practice of postponing action and consideration cf the bill is carried out. Every effort is being made to bring the highway commission, conservative ccmrn.islnn and other bills to the fron. so that they can be acted upon this week. Appropriations bills are yet to be disposed of, . are the measures proposing removal of sveral state institutions. And, In addition, many republican platform measures and the pledges are yet to be carried out. A number of constitutional changes remain in the balance.

Who Benefits by High Prices?
You feel that retail meat prices arc too high. Your retailer says he has to pay higher prices to the packers. Swift & Company prove that but of every dollar the retailer pays to the packers for meat, 2 cents is for packers' profit, 13 cents is for operating expenses, and 85 cents goes to the stock raiser; and that the prices of live stock and meat move up and down together. The live-stock raiser points to rising costs of raising live stock. Labor reminds us that higher wages must go hand in hand with the new cost of living. No one, apparently, is responsible. No one, apparently, is benefited by higher prices and higher income. We are all living on a high-priced scale. One trouble is, that the number of dollars has multiplied faster than the quantity of goods, so that each dollar buys less than formerly. Swift & Company, U. S. A.
