Professional boxing mar bs In a state of somnolence in these parts, but not In Philadelphia, & city noted for Its drowsiness. Si high-class bouts in on the. bill there tomorrow at two clubs lha Olympia and National. Each club will put on three fights. The Olympia seems to have the edge In th way of a headliner with Jack Dempsey. the courageous shipbuilder, and Bill Mlske. Sam Langford trades cufTs with Jeff Clark and Jack Thompson meets tha Jamaica Kid on the same Olympia bill. At the National, Johnny Dundee and Jo Phillips are featured. Joe Buiman. our own Chieigo bantam. Is down for a collision with Dave Astey. and Johnny Mealey will endeavor to muss up Toung Terry McGovarn. In the event that any sport fan does not care to see either fight show In Philadelphia he can Journey out to Franklin Field and watch Penn and Dartmouth play -soma football. Old Quakertown Is not too leep after all. tf Chicago aver again sees the day when there are six fights in the loop or vicinity there will be tremendous excitement and numerous 6-cent fares colIctced at the elevated stations. LAKES Ai PIER Moffett and Evers to Confer Today and Clash Between Sailors Is Likely. Despite the fact that Commander Kaurman. athletic director at Great Lakes, previously announced there would be no Great Lakes-Pier football engagement this Fall, a meeting; will be held at the station today to determine whether or not the game will be r'e-yed. Capt. Moffett, who is In charge of the Pier district as well as Great Lakes, wifl meet with Capt. Evers and the athletic botras of the lakes and rier for the I purpose of definitely deciding wnether i or not to hold the game. The Chicago public haa almost demanded that the two star sailor elevens meet on the gridiron. Both elevens have gone through Wie season with clean slates, and there Is considerable difference of opinion as to which team Is entitled to the servioe championship. Chicago's football loving public hopes that Capt. Moffett and Capt. Evers will decide to stage the battle. The Lakes eleven will visit California the latter part of December, but it is thought that Dec. 1 will be a date satisfactory to both teams. GREAT LAKES SAILORS RESENT "FLUKE" YARN GREAT LAKES. 111., Nov. 17. Great football fans, and there are thousands of them here on the station, are up'in'arms over the action of certain Chicago sporting; writers who are in-; cllned to look upon the Gobs' victory at Annapolis last Saturday as, a fluke. While the blue jackets do not deny that Great Lakes got the "break" of the game, they point to the wonderful fighting spirit shown by the entire team and also to the fact that Eilaon's run was one of the most brilliant feats in gridiron history. TRIS AND PIPP MUSTERED OUT BOSTON, Nov. 27. Tris Speaker, of Cleveland, outfielder, and Walter PIpp. New. York American, obtained their diicharges from the navy Monday. Both men have been studying for commissions at the naval aviation schol at the Massachusetts Institute of Te4;hnoloBTi

HOW CAN MR. CAMP KEEP DRISCOLL OFF HIS ALL-AMERICAN Signal honor Is about to alight upon Paddy Driscoll. That is, a reasonable guess says so. Taddy is likely to drew a place en the mythical All-American football team. This is selected each year by Walter Camp, dean of the footballers in the East, and it always has been difficult for a western man to make the grade. Mr. Camp did not travel West, but here the Great Lakes team Journeyed East and displays its football wares in ful view of Mr. Camp, who went to Annspolis or said was going, to see the westerners perform. They ma,y grow 'em superior in the East, but fans from this part of the country dou'ot it. They're Throwing Mud. ST. LOUIS. Nov. 27. "I'd like to know who gave Dr. Fraiee authority to act for the American League," shouted H. DeC. Ball, president of the St. Louis Browns, commenting on a telegram he received asking him to throw his vote for W. H. Taft to become baseball's judge. "I will not answer the message," continued Ball. "It looks to me like Fraiee is trying some more of his theatrical stuff. I'm not going to dance to Frazee's music." James C. Jones, head of the Csrdinals. in the absence of Major Branch "Rlckye. president, declared: "I'd like to see baseball get rid of the chrsp skates and secure a representative front to rule and guide the game. The boys ere coming back pretty soon and we want to give them amusement which is free from cutthroats." GOPHERS STOP MAROON PLAYS MINNEAPOLIS, Nov. 27. The first and probably the only scrimmage before the Chicago game at Stage; field next Saturday was given the Gopher men at Northrup field Oils afternoon. The team did wonderfully well against Illinois last Saturday, and which Gopher Scouts gave to the second team. T TIsSV'
