COIlim FOOQ CLUB HESOJSSUES APPEAL Lake County Must Do its Share in Relieving the World's Hunger.
CROWN POINT. Nov. 13. Mrs. Noble D. Soper. president of the U. S. Foods Clubs cf Lake county, has Issued the following stirring appeal In
behalf of food conservation. I
France Is depleted and unable to produce anything like a normal food
supply for at least a year. Belgium
has been destroyed and will have to be re-established. Russia is in a state of chaos. Millions of our former enemies are underfed and clamoring for nourishment. Surely there never was a time when we needed to conserve A3 we do now. Out of this deplorable ondltlon there are one hundred and twenty million people looking to the t-'nited States for food. It is the United States that stands supreme and vigorous In the ability to produce and feed the world.
There has never been a time when food conservation needed to be emphasized more clearly than now. We have been taught to think of food os a weapon of war. Now we must consider it as a means of preserving peace a means of re-establishing the wartorn nations of Europe. The problems of peace and re-adjustment are os, serious as are the .problems of war. Every woman's help Is needed to carry on and solve these problems. Every woman should do her utmost. Every woman should Join a U. S. Food Club and attend the meetings. The Food Clubs in Iake county will hold their regular monthly meeting on November 15. and the third Friday in each month is to be recognized as Food Club day in Iake -county.
Your money will buy doughnuts and chocolate for the boys in the wet trenches in France.

EMFLEJENEA. GEMS BY VALENTINE MOTT PIERCE, M. D.
Influenza i3 produced by a bacillus .or germ coming chiefly from discharges from the nose, throat and lungs of the person who coughs,
sneezes, or spits. The person attacked feels chilly, develops a high temperature usually accompanied
by headache and "ache all over" as it is usually described. If you have the above symptoms get into bed as quickly as possible, after a hot mustard foot-bath. Take a good purgative, such as one made up of May-apple, leaves of
aloe, root of jalap, and sold in every drug store as Dr. Pierce's Pleasant Pellets. Then surround yours-lf with hot water bottles. It is r. fact mentioned by physicians of the largest experience that the effort on the part of nature to throw off the poisons results sometimes ir inflammation of the kidneys. It is therefore very important to assis. nature in eliminating the toxins (poisons) from the body thru the bowels, skin and kidneys. Not only should this be carefully attended to by, the sick, but by the person who wishes to ward off an attack. A new kidney remedy called "Anuric" (anti-uric) can be obtained of the druggist. This "Anuric" flushes the bladder and kidneys and throws off the poisons (toxins), and should be taken with hot water or hot lemonade. Clear the nose with some good antiseptic spray or Dr. Sage's Catarrh Remedy. It is, of course, unnecessary for me to emphasize this, keep strong and healthy, fear neither germ nor German, and observe the three Os : A Clean skin, Gean bowels, Clean nose and mouth and you have half won the battle.
