SE PLAYERS HOLD THE EDGE There Is a doubt in the minds of some experts whether the service games this year will draw the crowds they had been expected to. The schedule conflicts with some extremely interesting college contests and it is a question if the football public can be coaxed into g,oing to the service games in preference to the college events. It is argued that the college men are also in the students' army trnir.ing corps and quite as much in tho service as the enlisted men at the regular army and naval camps. As regards playing qualities, the service teams appear to have the edge. These aggregations are composed mostly of players who have seen three years of college football and a majority of them were stars at their respective institutions. The players know football and require little teaching to master different formations. The strict discipline of the army or navy has whipped the players Into top physical condition to withstand tho battering of a tough game. TIE HUN TR1NSLAT1 (Detroit Journal.) President Wilson occasionally reserves one of his eolf dates In Order to play with Mrs. Wilson, and those who have been able to get "inside dope" on the scor cards have discovered that he is usually able to defeat her. The story of one of these matches was recently published in a newspaper, the caption reading: "President Wilson Beats His AVife." As a result ore may look, for a free translation In the German press In which the head of this nation is credited with beating up his wife. Then Frit will jam his spiked helmet harder down on his head so as to prevent its being readily removed for scalping purposes in the event of his being captured by a Yankee barbarian. THEY U HAVE TO WAIT There Is a belligerent spirit among many of the youngsters in the football camps at Butler and AVnbash. The teams 'have scheduled a game at Crawfordsville next Saturday, provided the ban on public gatherings is lifted. Reports from both colleges are to the effect that if the college authorities consider the proposed contest as important it will be played "flu or no flu." It is pointed out that the teams could play the game as an S. A. T. C. affair with the permission of the commandants, and that the health authorities would not have the riirht to Interfere p-ovtd-d a crowd of Fp-ctatirs mps not r-"o,"r.d to gather. :-y. .--i-ui..l-i-S thtt feet! i'i and other a'."..;e'k s :.! c-r.sidc-e ci'ntial In t,.c ttfcir.i'.T of a soldier. Johnny Evers, who is in France serving as a Knights of Columbus secretary, has been under shell fire of the Germans, but came through unscathed. Evers was near the front fighting lines distributing supplies to American soldiers when caught in a bombardment. Since the battle of Chateau Thierry, when American trops began their advance in earnest, the K. C. have employed several big motor trucks to convey supplies to the moving American troops. Small cars are employed for work near the advanced lines. Evers was in charge of one of these. He had J just finished distributing a quantity of cigarets when the Germans got busy. Describing; his experience, Evers said: "Heine was In fine pitching form that day and served everything he had in stock high and low ones and vicious lnshoots. I moved the home plate so fast he couldn't put anything over on me. and I went to first base on four balls. "I never did look for second or third base first was good enough for me; it was located in the rear end of a thirty i foot dugout. It's a good place to have a I base, too, when Henie lets fly a cargo of shrapnel." In a recent international association football series Denmark beat Sweden, at Copenhagen, 3 to 0.
