r?PECTAt. To The Times.) CROWN POINT. INP.. Aug. 8. The following report .ias been made of the various county Institutions: Xake County Poor Asylum Crown Point Visited Aug 1. 191$. by Mr?. J. M. Corner. Mrs. Frankie A. Barr. Mrs H Alschuler. Fr. Thos. Jansen and Mr, Iv 6. Xarcowieh. With capacity of "fiS there were 137 male and 20 female Inmates, a total of 14 7. There' wer two Insane women and 7 Insane men. These Insane ratients have no t-peclal attendants, hut are looked after by the man who has charge of the ceil house. A trained attendant would be better for the insane. The tubercular patients do not seem to have sufficient attention by the physician and nurse, but the cottage Is well planned and taken care of. There are more inmates working n the farm and about the. premises than previously and the institution is kept in good condition. There is one so'dier here. tVm Dieh'. who might be transferred to the Solfliers' Home. It is to be hoped that a new rock well wi:i be drilled before the winter, the new boilers Installed, so that the plant may be properly heated. It Is to be regretted that the fire in the coal bins caused so much damage and work but r.o serious result followed. A card Index system would simplify the record keeping, and It Is recommended by the board. Iake Cotuity Ja.ll Crown Point. Visited Aug. 1. 1918. by Mrs. J. M. Turner, Mrs Frankie A. Barr. Mrs. H. Alschuler and Mr. B. S. Xarcowieh. Jailer Thos. A- Piatt was in charge and gave us data. There were 61 men and t women present on day of Inspection, total of 67; of these 4 were government prisoners, and two were insane. The Insane were to be sent to the County Asylum While the Institution !s in fairly good condition, we would like to sc-e the adoption of the uniform system which would r.ecessitate the installation of ;he fumigation room. Detention Home Crown Point. Visited Aug. 1. 1918. by Mrs. J. M. Turner, Mrs. Frankie A. Barr. Mrs H. Alschuler. Fr. Thos. Jar.sen and Mr. B. S. Xarcowieh. Matron. Mrs. Furman. was just preparing to leave the home, and her successor was to come In that day. There were 6 girls in the home. 3 of whom were regards i as placeable in family homes. The electric washing machine had rot yet been placed, but we understand same had been ordered. Hammond City JaU Ha-mmond. Visited Aug. 1. 191S. by Mrs. J. M. Turner, Mrs. Fraukie A. Barr. Mrs. H. Al3ChuIer. Fr. Thos. Jansen and Mr. B. E. Xarcowieh. There were 5 inmates and the cells were clean. East Chicago JaU Sast Chicago. Visited Aug. 1. 1 91 ?. by Mrs. Frankie A. Barr. Mrs. Alschuler. Fr. Thos. A. Jansen and Mr. B. 8. Xarcowieh. There were 17 inmates and the jail was in worse condition than on previous visit. Chief Williams advised us the premises would be cleaned up at Root and Herb Medicines. Indian medicine men contend that the roots and herbs of the field furnish a panacea for every ill to which human f.esh. is heir. Be that as it may. it is interesting to note that the most successful remedy In the world for female ills. Lydia E. Flnkham's Vegetable Compound, was compounded more than forty years ago by Mrs. Lydia E. Finkham of Lynn. Mass.. from the roots and herbs of the field, and today it is recognized from ahore to shore as the standard remedy for female ills. Adv.
