NEW MAINS ARE NECESSARY The East Chicago and Ind. Harbor Water Co. has been ordered by the board of works to extend its main and put in the necessary hydrants on Melville avenue from 141st street to Garfield avenue and on Alexander avenue from. 141st street to Canal Port avenue. It was seen that the city would have an epidemic on its hands if conditions were not corrected and the water company was accordingly ordered to install the necessary extensions. The petition for this improvement was presented by AV. E. P.oe in behalf of the Indiana Harbor Realty Co. and other

property owners along these streets, j The petition recited the fact that there

are sufficient residents on these; streets to fulfill the exactions of the franchise and to justify the city in asking the company to put in these mains.
