Port-au-Prince. Haiti, July 4, 1915. Ptsrest Parents: I r c:id your letter of May n. 1018. nnd was sure glad to hear from you. 1 am well and am too busy to think of being happy, although I am happy, for t have burned that 1; pavs to bo happy at all times even if there, is something on one's mmd. The two boxes you mentioned in your letter hav e no as v et i cached me, but I hope to $ot th. m very v .on. The tobacco fam. ne ha" ;it lust hffd and there is plvnty of pipe tobacco to be had here. Bull Durham is tt Scarcity because I'ncle Sam is sending it h cross, to his boys on the other side. There is Bull down lure, but the purchases are 11mittd. and that makes it a luxury instead of a 'habit." This month I bought a quantity of Prince Albert and intend to make it do the month, for v hen I smoke a pipe I feel better and d- not smoke near as much. There, is nr. place down here that copy music can be boujrhl and as a conseTJer.ce we don't see many of the new n'.ngs. Tins is the Fourth of July and it is sure to be a big day here. There will be nil manner of sport, baseball, track races and races of all descriptions. Each company will have a tug of war team and they will pull their heads off. This is my dny on watch and so I am "out of luck" in fretting the chance to attend any of the sports. There will be lots of excitement nt home today. I suppose. 1 wish that I could be there to, see the sports. Just as it always has been, whenever anything Is going to happen I am on watch. Bit just the same, "duty before pleasure." So cheer up. The American Red Cross unit has been at work down here for the firs' time. They sure are .making things hum. There are several representatives of the Bed Cross down here now. Just yesterday I took a dictation from one. of them, and they seem to be doing all that is in their power to make things comfortable for the marints In Haiti. There is a Panama boat in port now and the American ladies und gen'lemen on beard have given a royal reception
