CJTho mere announcement of the July Clearance Sales was enough to brin a response as no other sale has done before. d Extra salespeople with our regular force coped "with the tremendous crowd of eager buyers that massed the tirst, second and third floors and basement, today, opening day of sale. , 'Knowing the importance of these Minas Clearance Sales men and women waited for them. They have come and bought and were not disappointedfor here they came and found bargains, genuine bargains in every corner of this, Hammond's greatest store. 11 It is quite true that practically every item in our store cannot be duplicated at present costs, but as is the policy of this store not to carry merchandise over from one season to another, thus enabling us to begin each succeeding season with nothing but fresh, new merchandise, this July Clearance Sale is to characterize a period of unequaled value-giving and to emphasize our appreciation of the patronage of the people of Hammond and vicinity, CThe sale continues until Saturday, July 20 anticipate your needs. Besides the United States district attorney's forces and agents the anti-Saloon league ;:-.id other prohibition organizations have aided in collecting evidence of the bringing of liquor into Indiana from neighboring states since the dry law was effective. The grand jury will not meet until October and it is understood that no action will be taken against the alleged offenders until then. The principal places where evidence was gathered were: New Albany, Jeffersonville. Evansville, Terre Haute, Ft. Wayne, Gary, Hammond. East Chicago, Union City and Uichmond. The traffic bMvern Kentucky and Indiana has been exceptionally heavy, accord ir.fr to reports. Whiskey was Tm-
ported by the truck loads in some places, according to the evidences in hands of special ine?tigators. Saloonkeepers who retained a supply after the law went into effect with the view of operating "blind tigers" are finding considerable difficulty in disposing of their products and the supply is proving a "white elephant" in most cases. Local police authorities in some ir.s-

of their ability, the prohibition organization's report shows. Hpwevcr, In some cities where a "wet" administration is in power the regulations are not obeyed. The state may step in and order the law- enforced in these places it was Indicated.

NIGHT OPERATOR ALL IN Vinol Made Him Feel Better, Look Better, Sleep Better. Springfield. Mass "I am a night operator was all run-down, couldn't sleep, had no ambition I had tried blood and nerve tonics without help and thought I would try Vinol and I must say it has built me up so I feel better, look better and sleep better." Charles T. Harder. The reason Vinol was so successful in Mr. Harder's case, is because it contains beef and cod liver peptones, iron and manganese peptonates and glycerophosphates, the very elements needed to build up a weakened, run-down system, make rich, red blood and create strength. IIORSE should be fed nccordlng to what you expect of him. If you are breeding horses for
Bpeed or for show, you -would give them no green grass, but would feed timothy hay, clover, alfalfa and st grain mixture. If you aro feeding horses for strength and endurance, you would give a larger quantity of muscle-making feeds. The best teams are generally in the city where they work hard every day. These horses get no green grr.ss at all. Thoy should be fed alfalfa and molasses feed and by-products of corn and oats properly ground and blended. Many feeders still think that whoI oats and com are neces
sary, but the Increasing prevalence of English sparrows In our cities gives practical proof that such feeding Is wasteful. It Is estimated that 20 per cent of these feeds could be saved by grinding and mixing and fed In a varied menu which is not only more appetizing, but supplies all the nutrients necessary without waste. Horses on pasture alone cannot give good service because the effect of the succulent grass loosens the bowels, opens the pores, makes them sweat freely. Pasturage Is to the horse what spinach and watery vegetables are to the human constitution. When horses are on pasture they should be fed a supplement of grain If they are to do a good day's work.
