FLAG FIGHT
Tha annual Junior-Senior flag fight of the Hammond high school started last Monday night when the Juniors unfurled their gold and black class emblem to the strong south wind. During the past years tha high school custom has been that the Seniors should raise their flag four days before the class day exercises but this year they lid not raise their flag because they feared they could not protect it. So the Junior's steeplejack. Donald Williams, ylimbed the sixty foot flag pole and wir
ed the Juniors nag to it thus making it impossible for tha Seniors to lower it. AVhen the' flag had been wired the high echool bell was run to let the public know that the class of '10 had raised their flag. , After Williams had lowered himself to the ground numerous class yells were given and a snake dance was held. Up to tha time of this writing none of theSeniors have ventured to touch the Junior flag.

EASY FOR BRITTON
BOSTON. MASS.. June 12. Jack Britton of New York was given the decision over Tom Jones' boy. Bryan Downey of Columbus, at the end of their scheduled 12-round bout here last evening. The ex-welterweight champion had the better of every round and had he half tried, in the minds of a majority of the fans, would have won in half the number of Jrames scheduled for the bout. Jack seemed to have Downey's measure taken In the second frame and from then on hit his opponent when and where he pleased. Downey seemed to be in fair condition. The fans here had picked him to win as they figured that Downey had stood Britton off !n a 12round bout in the west some time afco and that the Columbus boy had improved greatly since then. They were treated to a great surprise, as Britton never showed better in hts life than he did here last night. He seemed to be playing with Downey and in no round did he seem to be exertin? himself to the limit.
