"Dreamland," is the title of an offering that Bob Matthews, the author and producer calls an "Imagination" that Is presented in three scenes! and seven characters, showing pbantasmagorlcally the effects of partaking opium, or to use a vulgar hase "Hitting the Pipe." ' Dreamland" tells a most lucid story of this pernicious habit as well as illustrating by characters the vivid dream occasioned by a novice who was tempted by a confirmed "dope fiend" to try "hitting the pipe." The act opens with a scene in Chinatown. The "dope fiend" is discovered enjoying his cigarette after a seance with the pipe. Samuel, a Hebrew character appears and accosts the Dope. During the conversation, Samuel is astounded by the revelations of the Dope as to the enormous amount of money he has. As he is practically broke, the Dope's conversation appeals to him and wisely coming to the conclusion that if he could feci n. millionaire, he would gladly like the chance to do so. sagely he asks for the opportunity and drifts Into dreamland following his smoke.
