PEACE PIFFLE. Every time Wilhelm Attila the Hun bumps up against a stone wall he begins to camouflage with a little peace chatter. If he doesn't do it himself some of his copycats or supernumaries do it for him. All peace piffle comes from the friends of Bloody Bill. Wilhelm wants peace just about as badly as a barber van? the itch in his shop. He spills the peace fake to drive a wedee in the allies" morale. Every time this scourge of the human race this modern Frankenstein elutted with power and gorged with gobbets of gore, starts to talk peace he is the laugh ir.g stock "of the world. The allies will talk peace to Wilhelm Attila the Hun when he gets his rapists our of ravaged Belgium; when he marches his barbarians and brutes out of AlsaceLorraine. Peace! There is no peace, there will be no peace till then. Peace talk here is as useless as the fifth wheel on a wagon as long as Bloody Bill reigns. When Uncle Sam has Bill's hide nailed up. there will be plenty of time for peace talk.

DON'T BURY YOUR BOND.
THEY DON'T LIVE ON MANNA. In lines with the editorial recently appearing these columns regarding the rights of the Hammond school teachers to get more pay or at least as much as is paid by the East Chicago and Gary schools the Fort Wayne News says: Ten members of the graduating class of a certain Indiana high school took the examination for government work recently and all of them passed, coming into positions which at the start will pay them from SI, 00 to $1,300 a year. This renumf ration, amazing as the fact may seem, is more than is paid the average member of the faculty of the really excellent hieh school in question. Nor is this all or the worst of it. The assurance is that within three or four years these graduates, if they continue in the government service, will each be drawinz a higher salary than the principal of this high echool, a woman of many years experience, liberal education, and more than a state-wide reputation for eminent success in her profession. Do you wonder that hundreds of Indiana teachers are going inio other work or are leaving Indiana to become teachers in more favoring states? It is easy enoush to whine that th teacher's work is one whose recompence is nnt measured by the financial reward, and this point wil be readily conceded. At the same tiaie. while admitting that the bulk of the teachers' pay must be collected on the Glory Shore of the Great Hereafter in the redemption of the bonds of Miss el vert for faithful service on earth, it must still be urged that, the temporal return should at least be sufficient to provide decent clothes, sufficient food, and the ordinary comforts of civilized life. A good many people seem obsessed of the curious and unwarranted notion that teachers and preacher? subsist on quali and manna spread for their delectation by that same Divinity thata providently caters to to the sparrow. Come out of your trance, frb ncls, some out of your trance.

THE KAISER MUST PAY. There are touches of humor in nearly every grim situation. The Lokal Anzc iger of Berlin supplies one ir. connection with the bloody slaughter in Flanders. Recently it painted a word picture of Wilhelm soliloquizing on the Mount Khnmel battle field thus: "As he viewed the awful wreck and ruin and saw the shottorn bodies of his soldiers be-inc brought in. we learn that his majesty's silence was broken only when be remarked tf) an officer beside him: "What have I not done to preserve the world from ibese horrors." This little reverie show s that Willu lr.t is still the biggest advert i: inn a cent extant. Through the medium of the press he thus spoke a message for the hoodwinked people of Germany. He was playing to the gallery. What
