A NEVER-TO-BE FORGOTTEN DAY. Yesterday marked the unofficial close of the most remarkable campaign ever conducted in Lake county. As a demonstration of unalloyed patriotism it stamped the county as 100 per cent patriotic. If exceeded the wildest dreams of the Liberty loan managers in every city and town that took part, has this great third drive. The county's quota was three million and it has subscribed six million. No county among all Indiana's 92 has beaten Lake county; none has equalled her in unflagging zeal and patriotism. She has put to shame some of the largest counties that boast of riches and class. in patriotism. In each of the two preceding war loans she has exceeded her quota. In the Red Cross campaign and the Y. M. C. A. subscriptions she gave more than she was called upon. She has sent more volunteers to the front than any other county in the state, and time and again has crowned all her efforts with glory. The boys "over there" who hear the news as it comes to them of the magnificent support given them by tlie folks hack hom? will glory in the record. The Liberty celebration in Hammond yesterdav. despite lowering weather conditions, was an unqualified and wonderful success. While Hammond s'asod the affair, the credit is just as much at'ributa'de o the spb n did delegations who braved threaten ins weather to come to Hammond. We realize that they did not do i' for Hammond but for Fncle Sam. They were :rou.l of 'he patriotism of their respective communities and visited

Hammond to take part in a public demons; m' ion of that j

pride. Hammond must be r rate fill to the several participating communities and stand ready to tutn out as magnificently when her sister cities ca i. Gary, East Chicago, Whit ins, frown Point. Sahererville, Lowell, Sr. John, Dyer, Highland, a.nd M'insr"r were each represented in the demons: no o by ci r-d';'-able delegations. The cn cid in'o the spirit of ths thing generously. They swelled the Id street throng that ever poured throueh tho Hammond streets and their brave honor flas made a si::h long- 'o be remembered.

It. was a real Lake county jubilee, the first ever h. hi. j We hope there will be- many more of them, tor th-v ton 1 I
