WE'RE PROUD OF LAKE COUNTY.

rafrtv. 'f.'Sfc. e9ftiik.

t Aa in everythinK elst Lake county has ever undertaken aince the war began, it. has begun the third Liberty Loan drive with a patriotism unparalleled. A wave of patriotism sevi it last Saturday-swept it clean as a hound ? 'ooth of any doubts that w are in this war to win. North and Calumet townships were afire with real for Liberty Bond loanin?. Citizenship and American-ism plunged with united determination into the bis financial drive. Whiting and East Chicago had already pone over

thw top with a mosi magnificent, showing. Whiting go:

in the limelight first and with the record established in the second Liberty Loan drive of bavin? the mot subscribers, subscribed her Quota before a great many bigger places in the country had even woke up. East Chicago was already ea;er to pet into action in the big bond offensive and it was only a few hours later that her patriotic fervor was successful and Col Walter J. Riley, the city chairman, wired Governor Goodrich that the Twin City f as over the top. With her magnificent machine in full throttle Hammond reflected patriotism that shone like burnished brasa in the sun. and at 3 o'clock in the morning eighty f the city's hustlers began like tigers. When the glorious dedication day celebration was compete and returns were checked in. Chairman H. E. Sharrer announced that the city had also gone over the top end the White House got the wire that three Lake county cities among the first in the country had gone over. At Crown Point, Lake county's tiny capital, nightfall found that a band of loyal women had sold nearly $50.00 north of bonds, and by this time Crown Point will be oversubscribed. Gary's great patriotic parade got under way late in the afternoon and bond salesmen hammer and tongs carried the war into the trenches with speedy prospects of cleaning up on the kaiser. The spirit of a united people with the "win-t he-war" impulse pervades the county. During the life of the drive the oversubscription of quotas by a big majority will inform the world that old Lake county, second in all of Indiana's ninety-two in some things but first in patriotic fervor and loyalty, has again demonstrated her superiority. Now, all together for the next ten days. Let's shov the kaiser where we Ftand. Make it a big one.

HAMMONDS LIBERTY HALL. The German kaiser and his crew received a large and fully developed swat in "Hammond on Saturday when the people of the city dedicated their Liberty hall and consecrated it to war service, and the minority, who would rather crawl in servility at the modern Atilla's feet, received several swats. Hammond can no longer be known as a pro-German rity. That type of citizen has pretty well come out in th open in his allegiance or crawled in the hole and galled the hole in after it. It is true that there is a mattering of undesirables who still weep German tars, but tbey are listed and will be dealt with by the proper authorities' In a short time. Hammond was the scene of a tremendous outpouring of people- Nothing like it was ever seen in the city. There will never be anything like it again until the boys come home. The spirit manifested and enthusiasm demonstrated foald not be eclipsed anywhere. Everybody vied with th other fellow in showing his love' of liberty that magic and sweet word and his allegiance to the flag. Th building of Liberty hall has been a stupendous thing' for Hammond in many ways, if jt. were to go up in smoke tomorrow it will have fulfilled its mission. It hag weeded out. the garden of Liberty and planted it with Powers whose fragrance will live forever.

It is (he deed and not the word which will live in)

turned to dye production when the war is over. It will bo remembered rhaf after Germany had boon at war

roor than two years, the submarine merchantman.

Dutchiand, brought a carco of dyes to America and toox hack a cargo of war supplies, thus demonstrating that 'wo years of war had not obliterated the dye Industry as a possible trade factor. Not only ohrr European nation? but. Japan as well have been building up dye industries and will be a ready as Germany to compote m o';r markets when the war is over. Th only practicable
