Mr. Marhvtt's incarceration in Jail should not prcchule his right of audience, and even 1 hough we hav no synipathy with, the prisoner In his belief that the I. W. Rolsheviki lines no' mean the majority, as Mr. Maria.' says, het'ause they are no' th Russian majority. The bolshevki prroup in Kussia is hut 7 per cent of O e entire population. The peasantry is the ma,ior''y. The peasant doesn't believe in any sense in defyins law and order. He will never support the extierae demands of the fanatic boisheviki. Bo!sheviki?m is responsible for thousands of crimes. I" cares nausht for Russia or any other conn'ry. ! is boiifcht and ha'ched by heUish Prussian gold. In short, the holshevikist is a wild fiteluand. Of course the I. W. W. is in sympathy with him. Of course tbt 1. W. W. wan's to see bolshe vilfism cet a fooihold in the Vnired States. Your tnie . YV. Mr. William (i. McA.loo is. no doubt, a ie and efficient. There are, however, limit to his usefulness. It would seem that ns Secret ary of the Treasury and IMrector General of Railroad he is laden with power and responsibility enough to test his ability to the utmost. Yet the War Finance Corpora ion b'.il, prepared by Mr. McAdoo ;.nd ini'oduced in c'y.r.giess las Monday, provides that the Secretary of the Treasury shall be Chairman of the Hoard of Pirectors and shall name the other four members, subject to the approval of the President. 1'ru'er this bill 'he War Finance, Corporation is to be ndow ed with broad power?. It is to have a capital stock of half a billion dollars, which Is to be subscribed by the United States, and o he loaned under certain ; conditions to industries and enterprises necessary to the 1 prosecution of the war. The secretary of the treasury; would have complete control of this vast sum and its! i distribution, lie won id be practically the sole arbiter j of thefortunes of those engaged in war industries who found ii nec'-ssatiy to .secure capital from the corporation. ; The purpose of the bill is admirable, and the necessity of some plan of capitalization of war industries has al-I ready been demonstrated. No doubt the secretary of the 'reasury should have a supervisory relation to such a corporation, like tiia he sustain" to the Federal flesor; bank system, for ' sample. Put his plan of making him- ' self the artu?l executive head of the Corporation, in ad-1 dition to discharging his onerous daties as director of the vast railroad system, involves an unwarranted roncn- j ration of responsibility. There is danger of spreading Mr. McAdoo o,i' too thin . -- Minneapolis Journal. '

THE DUNES REGION. As a part of the Indiana geological report "i 10 iie issued by A. F. Knotts. of Gary, has written a pamphlet on the dune region of northern Indiana. The resion is in 'o tarts, firs . that occupying the portion of the old bed and shore of the so-called "Lake Kankakee." lying noisily soutii of the present. Kankakee river and marsh; second, 'hat portion of 'ho old "Lake Chicago" bed and shore, lying between l.ak Michigan shore and the Valparaiso moraine, says the report. The Lake Kankakee section alone covers more than fi.i'rtO square miles of which area is in Indiana. When the last great glaciers came down from ihe north lhey carried with and pushed ahead of 'hern great masses or rocks, boulders, gravel, sand, earth and clay. These masses came in contact with other masses which thev sround into fine particles. From this centuries la'er came the dunes. Dunes were formed by the wind wherever a tree or a shrub, or a bunch of dune grass ct:uht. and piled the sand as it was blown aiiout. The pampiiiet ends wi'h a description of the beauties of the dune country and pointing out their interest to geologist, botanist, nauiralisr, artist and poet. Fn'es.e public action is taken to prevent, the tepions w,!i hi', lost to these ihrough the steady encroachment of industry. Some time a so a hearing was held by the secretary of the interior on a proposel to convert the dune country in'o a national park, and in a later report he urged that from !."'( 'mi to 1 ')( acres along the southern shores of I.r.ko Michigan be accpiiii d for the purpose. When ihe war is out of the way this project should again come in for the public attention it merits. Indianapolis X w s .
LABOR FIGHTS IN SELF-DEFENSE. The series of explosion and fires ihat have been Tree':. ins; American si eamships, docks, factories, bridges, rail wary trams and grain elevators afford? the American working man a most, practical reason why he should lend every ounce of sM-ens'h and energy to the winning of the war atainst military autocracy of the central empires. To him and his immediate interests this is a war of selfdefense a war against a s'-s'em tha contemplates hi? undoing. "The. ,- js not a qups'ion in i he world that the at'emnts to destroy Am'"'ri''an industries are a part of the German war propaganda," said a. grea labor leader recently, "and should bo the du'y of the American work;r.,man 'o aid th-ir ;uv-i ntne-m in every possible way to wipe out this sort of propaganda. WOULD BE PECULIAR THEN. Yes, this is a peculiar world. A minister of the gospel may preach twice e ery Sunday, hold pray er meeting on Thursday nigh and officiate at numerous funerals arid weddings, yet never go? his -picture in the papers.
