Death Certificates Recover Under Scientific Mothering.

There !s a quiet little nurse in the bureau of child hygiene of New York city who may b said to have brought the dead to life. She baa kept alive, babies who were "officially" dead. When she undertook their care she was giTen their death certificates and told they would probably die before she reached her destination with them. Three years ago the nurse went to a foujidling asylum where the flotsam and jetsam of humanity washes up into the white wards. She asked to be shown the babies who were classed as hopeless, whom the doctors had given up for dead. There was a group of them, many only a few hours old, but all doomed. The doctor's chief serrice for them would be to slsn their death certiS-i-ates. Out of this forlorn group she selected the most forlorn. It was marascoic, like all the others, only a shade thinner and more puny. By arrangement with the managers t the institution the nurse was allowed to take the baby with her. But sne as provided with Its death certificate, po sure were'the physicians that the child would die fn her arms. By a seem:ng miracle the baby lived intil the nurse reached the home of woman who had been cao?en to
