idea that, the

reform crusades that havo boon, started and which had had for hoir rhiff

purpose the attempt to discredit Mayor Johnson in favor of W all Street's candidate for Mayor must realize the hypocrisy behind it all. Hy this tim tho woiti'-n of Gary must realizo that the same men who are hack of the "reforms," this election time arc the saai who were back of tho election-time "reform''

crusade this time four year." aco and this time eight years ago. The directors

of election -t'me "reform." "p'tri'y" and "temperance," also include the same men who provide your men folks with the steel trust sites for getting liquor m the saloons near the main gates of the great steel mills of Gary. Some of these "reformers" are the sane men, who white engaged in business or poli

tics or when they were in office tolerated and profited politically by a segre

gated district of which there is none in Gary today. This is plain talking, hut these are the times to talk about it. The chief issue that the Pharisees raise in Gary is "vice." We do not claim that Gary is a .Sunday school town nor yet is it a Sodom and Gomorrah. It is an average American city. The "reformers." who do not hesitate to fool newly-arrived ministers, constantly talk "vico," have their controlled newspapers keep their columns reeking with it for political purposes and they oven go into the courts. Vet Gary'is a clean, American city it is a black city, officered by a demon major, peopled with sinful residents as far as the "reformers" of Wall Street are concerned. Not one of the "reformers" has accepted Mayor Johnson's challenge to debate with him on conditions, for there is too much fear the public will team who in the nst leased shadv resorts, who' had to do with a sonrogated district.
