FERIIAFS THE RED CROSS WILL KNIT 'EM SOME

The defeat of the Hammond football team yesterday by the Racines may be attributed largely to the fact that when Manager Parduhn got the team some of the latest model suits, in his excitement he forgot to buy them red woolen mittens. Lack of these made their fingers cold and hence: the atrocious fumbling. The members of the back field should either be equipped by next Sunday with nice red mittens or baskets.

tell mo It's a rotten game? I wouldn't known. For goodness sakea let's go home. Oh, look at the referee with the little mustache. Isn't It perfectly thrilling. I'm simply bored to tears."

Hammond fight fans are enthused over the splendid showing Macey Roberts has ben making in the ring of late. ' 'jt ce." a fast 133 pound production of Hammond, lists been tipping "em over in his weight and his record Is shoving him into the lightweight first division. Benny Leonard now holds the lightweight honors of the world. lie is matched to box Pnilor Friedman soon. Young Army, a fast Chicago oy, beat this Sailor lighter sometime ago. A few nights ago Hammond's star. "Mace." put Young Army to "sleep" In the fourth round of a scheduled ten round go at Phoenix. 111. This elevates the Hammond glove artist Into the limelight of tl.' se men a champion must take rognlr.ance of in order that he may safely hold the title. Not ihat "Mace" is going to challenge Leonard right away, but he Is going to plug along knocking off Leonard challengers until the "champ" begins to ask who this "Mace" person Is. Mncey is not sophisticated. He

j realizes that the hoys hijher up have j it on him now but he believes in the old adage, practice makes perfect. So every night or so at Cherokee A. C-. ' Hast Side. (Br Airazs wilcox.) j Hammond high made its debut fori the football championship of Lako county high schools Saturday by trimming prettily the Fast Chicago "preps" 48 to! 12 at Fast Chicago. Some of the Karnes were marked by hard and aggressive football. Othrs lacked the punch and drive which the teams should have nt this stage of the season. In some cases the victors used straight football tactics, while, in others ll.o open game was employed. The resuits plainly showed that any team;

must be coached in both styles of foot ball tactics.

GMT WINS; OUTWEIGHED IT ELKHART

Gary's husky gridiron warriors kept up their winning streak Saturday afternoon at the Emerson field when they took the fast Elkhart hi eh school team

Into camp by the well earned score of 12-0. At no time during the game did they permit the visitors to threaten their goal Line. The afternoon was ideal football weather and an unusually lirge crowd i saw the battle. Gary made its first touchdown In the close of the first half when Kilpa trick recovered a fumbled punt and took the pigskin over for the first score. Fumbles defeated Goj-y out of several more markers. With but a I few minutes to play Dunlavy scored the second touchdown. Although the visitors outweighed the Gary la is. Elkhart showed themselves a scrappy aggregation and played a good hard clean game. Gary loomed up in fine- form and showed lots of pep and speed as a result of the rigid practice given them by Coach Jack Gilroy last w eek. Next work Gary Is scheduled to face East Chicago whom Hammond mopped the field with Saturday afternoon. Hammond will clash with South Bend next Saturday and Gary will watch its outi come with interest. They expect Ham

mond and South Bend to be their hard est opponents.
