Looks like fur, but it isn't. This striking turban of dark crimson velvet is banded tog-ether with brown and cream colored uncurled ostrich feathers. The standing quill is also an ostrich feather, undipped. The turban is certainly unique and pretty. It gives the wearer that chic dashing appearance that is so hard to obtain without in many cases using freak clothes and hats.

Thus the third fenn of taxation hit'j th" automobile u?er. Many Lrfike county farmers will he hit bv a form of double taxation in
connection with the new war taxoj. ' The tax bill provides for income and ! excess profit tnxe. These provisions have been pretty generally explained ;

vent bidders from bidding' on any kmci of asphalt bu. Trinidad or Hermudez, boili of which are produced by the Earber Aphalt Company. It might be explained, however, that specifications at Fort Wayne permit the use of Trinidad. Bermuiifz and California asphalt, but lone hauls rnd lii?h freight chart'-s kep California asphalt from hems brought to Fori Wayne for competition, and therefore the Barber company's monopoly is effective.
Some time ago the county commissioners of Madison county let a contract for ravin n a road to a paving compar.y at a bid $,o00 hi she r than the low bid of another contractor, and the taxpayers of the county brought on injunction suit to prevent the commissioners from awarding: the contract. It is alleged that the commissioners were influenced by politics to sive the job to a polities! favorite whose bid ivi:s higher than, the bid of the other company. The successful bidder proposes to u?e Trinidad asphalt, while the low bidder proposed to use another brand.
