BT OEO. MAETIN (United Press Staff Corre3poadsat) WASHINGTON', Oct. 6. Warning against desecration of the American flag by enemy aliens and an order for their summary arrest and punishment has been issued by Attorney Gregory and is in the hands of V. S. Attorneys throughout the country. "Any alien enemy tearing down, mutilating, abusing or desecrating the United States flag in any way," says the ord"r. "will be regarded as a danger to the public peace or safety and will be subject to summary arrest and punishment." In this connection Adjutant General McCain has issued a pamphlet devoted to the traditions and uses of the Stars and Stripes for the information of the general public. There is neither federal law nor rule
for the manner in which the civil population displays, hangs or salutes the. flag, General McCain pointed out. Such rules as there are apply only to the j army and navy. j "The only national laws there are j governing the use of the flag." said he, i "are those providing that 'no trade : mark can be registered using the flag, J coat of arms of other insignia of the United States or any simulation thereof j and providing penalties for misuses of ! the emblem 'within the District of Col- j umbia.' " There are, however, state i laws governing the use or abuse of the j flag. The Attorney General's order takes its ! authority from section 12 of President j Wilson's proclamation of April 6. i;17, ' concerning the activities and govern- ' ment of enemy aliens. j "In the army," said General McCain,
"it is the practice, each day regardless of weather to hoist the flag briskly at sunrise and lower it slowly and ceremoniously at sunset. Indicating com
mencement and cessation of the activ- j Hies of the day. j "It is displayed at half mast Memor
ial Day, May 30, until noon, and at full
mast from noon until sunset. This also is done on other days named by army authorities from time to time. The flag is always hoisted to full staff before be- j
ing lowered to half mast." General McCain recommends that the flag should never be used except on a fs)g pole. For purposes cf decoration he
recommends bunting, but never the flag. "If you must use it for decorative purposes other than on a pole." said McCain, "it should always be hung flat, with the union to th ! north or east. However, it should not be displayed horizontally or laid fiat. "Under no circumstances should it be
hung where it will be contaminated, or be draped over chairs or benches. Xo object or emblem of any kind should be placed above or upon it. There is no objection to flying the flag at night on civilian property if it is not don for advertising purposes. "The Hug is generally displayed on Lincoln's and Washington's birthday. Mother's Day, Memorial Da v. Flag Day and Independence Day. Where several flags or emblems are displayed, the American flag should be in the center at the top. In any parade the flag should have the place of honor. "The flag should never be displayed with the union down except as a signal of distress nt sea. Old or worn flags should nt be used, ever. They should lie burned, privately, without irreverniue or disrespect. These views are
rely suggestive and not authorita
tive.

(Ey United Frees) PARIS. Sept. 15 (By Mail.) German organization and thoroughness has failed in one respect that of marktns on German airmen's maps the location of German prison camps in France. Thirty-seven of his countrymen dead and forty-three badly wounded was the net result of one German aviator's recent carelessness. An official announcement. Just issued, gives bare facts. Here are the details: A squadron of German planes recently arrived over the coastline between Belgium and France on a bombing expedition. One of the airmen spied a group of hutments and detoured above. It was a prison camp full of captured Germans. The aviator shot an aerial torpedo. Below a column of prisoners were marching into camp after the days work. The torpedo fell squarely In the center of the column. "The destruction cf life was heavy though no building suffered. Hence the French official announcement wording, 'no material damage done.'"

FLAG SHOUTEHS Now is the Time for Them to Show Ptriotism by Buying Liberty Bonds, Says Vice President Marshall.
You have worked hard at your job. You have been thrifty and saved some money. .You would like to make that money earn more money. Every man who works for a living will agree with these statements and he will be interested in knowing how he can invest his savings so that more prosperity will come to him and his family. There is no better, quicker, safer, surer way than to join with men who are successful men whose brains, judgment and experience have made fortunes for themselves and others men who value their good name and reputation too highly to associate themselves with any business undertaking that is not sound and legitimate. Substantial business men such as these have organized the Blackstone Petroleum Co., 510 E. 47th Street, Chicago, for the purpose of drilling for oil on lands, the leases of which they own, in the famous Salt Creek Extension, Natches, and Powder River Dome Sections of Wyoming. These men have already secured and paid for 2,720 acres of proven oil land which has been passed on and approved by eminent geologists and oil experts. That the judgment that prompted this purchase was sound is proved by the fact that a 500 barrel well was recently tapped in the immediate vicinity of their property. In a letter to this company. Dr. Frederick Salathe, Petroleum Expert of the Standard Oil Co. at Whiting, Ind., emphasizes the wonderful possibilities of the Blackstone oil lands as fellows:

AVASHIXGTOX. D. C. Oct. 5. Vice Prestdent Marshall, in a statement Issued on behalf of the Liberty Loan, said he wanted to see "every man, woman and child In America who has been wavingr the flag, singing 'The Star-Spangled
Manner,' and bragging about the glories j of democracy, prove now by their works j that they have a genuine faith in the '
American republic." "That proof," added the vice president, "demands cf us all that we take enough of the war obligations of this
government to make us feci some sort j of sacrifice for the cause, as each one of us professes to believe and does believe. '
"V,'c have been running up the American flag at all the school houses: we have been rising with solemn countenances whenever "The Star-Spangled Banner' is played, and we have been proclaiming to the world our never ending allegiance to those great principles of democracy upon which the republic was founded and is now supposed to rest. "N'ow we have reached the point where our faith is being put to the touchstone of our works, and we aro soon to find out whether this love which we profess for our institutions, our country, and our flap: is but a sounding brass and a tinkling symbol, or whether it is a great and vital inspiration of individual and national life."
"I have made a vary comprehensive examination of yoar holding in the oil fields f Wyoming, and among other things, find that some of your holdings are situated directly upon the Powder River Oil Dome, and that the Wall Croek Sand outcrops on the Northwest site of the Dome. "The Powder River Oil Dome is one of the few perfect domes which 1 have examined. I heve analysed various samples of Oil Sands in your Salt Creek holdings, end find them to contain Oil 32 Jb Baume average gravity, and of a superior quality for commercial purposes. "Yoa have without a doubt some of the very best Oil lands in the State of Wyoming. Your acreage embraces practically everything in the wey of Oil formation that goes to make the ideal field and in extent is large enough to enable you to take full advantage of all the natural resources in that region. "That there is Oil. and in abundance under your holdings, is an assured fact, that you will get it is almot a certainty for 1 cannot determine bow you can drill a well and miss sss of the four Oil Sands underlying your property. "You have everything in your f a'vor and I will not be surprised to hear of your bringing la big producer at the first well."

RUSHVILLE. A stalk of corn is on exhibition here that Is fifteen feet and three Inches tall. This Is believed to "be a record for the country. GARY. In a'fi-'tic encounter here Joe Ladra suffered the loss of a front torth. Now he has filed charges osainst Tom Capony for $300. alleging that he is unable to chew and masticate his food, and his mouth is permanently disfigured-
A clause in the oil leases of our company stipulates that actual drilling operations must begin on or before Oct. 6th. We are prepared to meet this requirement. All the preliminary work has been done. Two standard drilling outfits have been purchased and our camp and commissary are in operation. The derick is already erected for operations to begin at once. Statistics prove that 85 per cent of the oil wells drilled in the United States, when the site is selected by an expert geogolist, yield oil. Statistics also show 95 per cent of the wells drilled in Wyoming under similar conditions are equally productive. In fact the oil business today, when conducted under the advice and direction of experts, as is the Blackstone Company, is not the gamble that it was formerly, but is a safe and sound business investment which will yield results in dividends far in excess of almost any other business.
The demand for crude oil today exceeds the supply by 35,000 barrets in each twenty-four hours, and as prices are always regulated by th e law of supply and demand, one can easily see the reason for the huge profit made in the oil business. In order to avoid the high cost of promotion usually incurred when the stock of oil companies is offered for sale through brokerage houses, the Blackstone Petroleum Co. is offering a limited amount of ,'ts capital stock to the public direct The officers and directors of this company are serving without salary or compensation of any kind and will receive their profits in proportion to the amount of their holdings as will the investors who subscribe now. For a short time Blackstone Oil stock will be sold to small investors at 25 cents per share, par value $1.00. ,
