XEW YORK. Oct. 6. To go shopping v ilh a husband in search of a gown for his left-at-home- spouse is a liboral education in what's whnt for the nonce in tt-fl mode. I did it yesterday and here' where I pa?3 on a littlo of my liberal '--iucation to those less saxtorially erudite. The two main points cleaned are that f you haven't any waist you are all right but if you haven't any neck ycu are lost. All of the gowns dragged out frr our inspection were either collated high and tight and choky or else they s-howed what tha sales-duchess assured us was the new neck line. This meant that it is cut straight across, following the line of the collar-bone in front and th same height in back. This is a most trying line unless the neck is a perfect pi!lar of beauty, round and young and fair, which it isn't very often. This same neck curved slightly to maka a rounded outline is a slight variation offered but no supplimentary collar of lace, net of white Georgette is allowed to relieve or soften the chaste severity of it's contour. Occasionally a narrow band of fur. or metallic or worsted embroidery, or a narrow banding of beads Is allowed to outline this new neck but such emboli-

Relieved From Pain and Suffering by Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound.
Brooklyn. N.Y. "For three er fonr years I suffered a great deal of pain periodically, bo I would have to lie down. My back would ache and I would feel
very weaK and mis
erable, i remembered how my mother had found relief from pain by using LydiaE. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound and I decided to try it, and thanks to the Compound it helped me just as it did my mother, and I am free from pain, backache and that
feneral weakness that was so hard to ear. I am able to do my work during f uch times and am recommending Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound to my friends who suffer as I did." Miss M'eta Tisdemann, 1622 Jefferson Ave, Brooklyn, K. Y. To "know whether Lydia F. IM nkbam's "Vegetable Compound will help you, just try It. For advice write to Lydia CPinkhaua Medicine Co. (confidential) Lynn, Mas. Your letter w ill be opened, read and answered bv a woman, and held ia strict cor.lid.?are.
-- -. . ... .!.--. j. .. 'iL.ua. j. U ishment accentuates rather than alloviutos the harshness of the line. (1 got all these perfectly good threa uylable words from the vales-duchess as part of my liberal education.) The hiirh collars are made to fasten almost up to unes eara. You'va probably heard about them but if you den thorn you will never hear above them so muffled will your sural appendage become in their fur-banded tops. There will bo an awful slump in the ear muff market this winter. Thtse new choker collars will have Quite pushed them off the map and the face of things. Satan will certainly be at a loss for an idle hand this season for every sort of grown, afternoon, morning, houso or evening- is simply smothered in lnrtftworii of some sort, either embroidery in worsted, silk or metallic threads, braiding or beading. Jet beading and fringe adds a -tlitiery touch ond metal brocades of all sorts and descriptions are used in every con-ceix-able manner as trimmings on all sorts of pwns. Hide bands of furs, preferably fox, are shown as favorite garnishments nnd ure most effective bordering tunic overskirts of Georgette fr aide panels of Georgette which fall almost to the- top of the hem of the underfkirt. The fur bands are also stunning on the louse widij Chinese sleeves of Georfrelte which are so popular. Taupe, soft and subtle, is a favorite shade, and vies for favor with h11 shades of blue from navy and midnight to peacock and Nattier. Combinations of blue and tftupe or blua and grey are very good and you may be black and blue too If you wish to b f aphionab.la for combinations of blue serge and black charmeuse are decidedly smart for shopping and morning frocks. Either you must be Chinese this season or you must be Russian. The lovely Chinese gowns of chiffon velvet e-aT-orately embroidered in Oriental designs and colorings, with thir wide loose sleeves and sashes finished with silken or metallic fringe are indeed Celestial, and the loosw Russian tunic gowns also elaborately and colorfully embroidered and fur banded are 8ura to do a rushin' business. Both of these models, of course show tha long, loose straight lines as do almost all the other gowns. They boast sashes or girdles of some sort, it la true, but there is no drawing in of them if you would look like this season s model. By the way. Since designers Insist on christening their latest creations some little pet r.ame like Zia, I.a Chinoise. Marucla, Moonlight Madness or Cosetta why wouldn't an appropriate title for these narrow straight-f rom-the-shoulder mode be La Hooveretta, There certainly Isn't a particle of waist about them. ii.ii ii
