But this is an excellent time to thoroughly cleanse the blood of the terms of Catarrh, and be forever rid of the troublesome sprays and douches hat ran never cure you. S. S. S-. the great blood purifier. There will be a distinct innovation in the politics of East Chicago if the plans of the executive committee of the republican party are carried out. At a meeting hell last night at headquarters at Calumet, it was decided to have a poll of each ward in the city and have these polls taken, if possible, by the women. Work will be started at once to line up enough women interested in the city campaign to get out into their several STAR THEATRE WHITING. Sorr.e vacancies are occurring in the precinct committeemen selected a couple of weeks ago. A motion was carried last night authorizing- the city chairman to fill all such vacancies. Organization talks were made by Ieo McCormack. Abe Ottenheimer, Sam Benante. Mike Havran, H. M. Cohen. Dr. R. r. Hale, II. K. Groves. John Tensley and others. Tensley, a. colored man. proprietor of a Calumet restaurant, made the hit of the evening. He said that inasmuch as the republican party as such was in the. field, no colored man could vote otherwise than with this party. He was for McCormack first, last and all the time the man whose experience in municipal aiTairs would enable him to fix up the breaks whenever they might occur. It was planned to hold a general meeting of the republicans at the headquarters at Calumet tonight as a final get-together to complete plans for the campaign. Tonight it will be decided when to formally open the campaign. Once under way, there will be general meetings held at the Masonic Temple, Kast Chicago, and at the Auditorium. Indiana Harbor, and there will be an average of at least two meetings held in every precinct of the city. Inspectors were instructed to confer with the precinct committeemen and to report to the city clerk at once where the polling places' In the several precincts would be. From the discussion the following facts developed: That the proposed improvement extend from Gustlin street (145th street) to a point one-half mile south of the city limits. That the road viewers have not yet made their report and that they are holding this up until they see what Hammond Is going to tlo about completing all of the underground worn necessary on this street before the improvement is made. The county commisisyners say that the street will not he improved until Hammond does its part in the matter; that it would be folly to put down an expensive pavement here that would have to be torn up to excavate for sewers, etc. -That Calumet avenue has a wealth of abutting property whjse valuations are fully sufficient to Justify this improvement at the expense of the individual property owner. That East Chicago would pay over 42 per cent of the cost of this street, as seen in the following approximate figures: Valution. Per Cent. Kast Chicago J16.09S.005 42.9 Hammond 12.084.350 32.5 Whiting 9.453,945 24 Munster 757.330 2 Highland 625.905 1.5 Rest of township.... 956,095 .2.5 In consideration of the present stage of proceedings and in consideration of present conditions as s-een by the members of this organization, a motion was made and unanimously carried that it be thf sense of the chamber that every possible step be taken to prevent the improvement of Calumet avenue at county expense at this time.
