CHS DECISION IS
EXPECTED. SOB' A letter has been received h the Eat f'hlcago board of works from Carl It. Mote, secretary of the public service commission in which Mr. Mote says that no derision has been reached by the commission in regard to the petition lib d by W. E. Roe and oile rs asking for an order to ihe East Chicago and Indiana Harbor Water Company authorizing and compelling them to lay certain X' OnsioilS to cj.p Mill,,. . o the properly of the Indiana Harbor .Realty subdiv islon. The letter funhet- says turn a conference has been lo Id wit it Mr. Kirk, and that it is Mr. Kirk's oiitention that the revenue would no', compensate the company for expense v. hu h would necessarily be incurred, jp; ;hat he indicated a disposition to adjust the mattor if an agreement could he reached. John TV. MeCardle. to whom this matter was referred, has been ill for several weeks, and it is uncertain how soon he will he iblo. to take it up. Mr. Mote hays, however, that in his opinion, unless Mr. McCardle returns soon, the commission will take up th.- ca.-e and determine it. mi DEMOCRATS Their Newspaper Discredits City Ticket of Democrats. Gary democrats have been put to much embarrassment owing to the. attitude of Mayoralty Candidate. Curtis' repuled organ, which now editorially advises its readers in the following words : "We do aot say 'Vote the demo, cratic ticket etiaig-ht,' because we want Gary voters to use their own beads. We don't want people to f party men' only, we want them to think over tbe lesuee," etc. That the newspaper that is supposed to be the organ of the democratic party and whose editor received the postmastership because he is an alleged democrat should advise voters that it is not urging them to stick to party lines or! to vote the straig'ht democratic ticket! has caused a 'blow up" at democratic! committee headquarters. i "Why, the editor of th. Post was glad to beg for his postoffice job along j straight party lines." said a leading! democrat. "No. the Post wants to trim part of the ticket." Some of the democrats believe that Wall street, political agents, who are said to use the Post to engage. In fakereform campaigns and to go into the sewer to blacken the characters of Mayor Johnson and others see no hope in having a party organ. Support Brings Suspicion. In the meantime, the Post seems to bring suspicion upon any candidate it supports as the feeling is that the .Wall street political crowd have approved that candidate. Then another thing the Post as the organ of the fake reformers, who get rewarded by standing at TVall street's financial and contracting' trough, has been rubbing it into promi- I nent south side democrats, a few of whom were indicted for minor charges. but who bear as good reputations as I the men who have been out to "get! them." There is some talk tnat the demo- ( crats will get an organ of their own. ' The attacks made upon Mayor Johnson j by The Fct and the TVall street re-j formers have aided his c andidacy instead of hurting it. and this has some-j thing to do with the situation. !
