If you are waiting for the price of building material to go down before you improve your property you will have to wait a long time. You will have no trouble to find a tenant. Newcomers to Hammond, and there are plenty of them, beg and plead for some place to live, with nothing to be had. When it was known a new flat building wasgoing up in Hammond there were enough applications for flats to fill f, building five times the size. It is not too late in the season to start that flat building. But you must get busy. Tcanta are waiting. Ask the advertisers on this pags regarding building costs.

(By JINQOE.) "Fete Henning: day" was a marked success Insofar as it turned almost a record crowd at Parduhn park, but was robbed of a portion of its splendor by the defeat of the Hammond club at the har.ds of South Chicago. The latter won for the second time in two weeks. However, the hero of ( the day was in no way accountable fyr the trimming wo took. Henning yesterday outpitohed Sam Lafferty, one of the- best twirlers in the city of Chicago, and fattened his own batting average considerably, lie allowed the visitors but eight scattered hits, whereas Hammond took eleven. He struck out eight of the best stick artists in the Chicago league, and Lafferty fanned but six. He poled two clean doubles, both sailing clear to the park fence, scoring one man with the flrst and two with the second. Receives Handsome Token. In the second inning, on the occasion of Henning's first time at bat the game was halted and he was presented with a beautiful basket of American beauties and a handsome Hamilton w.itch. The token was the gift of his many admirers and was presented by Mayor John I). Sma'.ley, who delnrrc-d a short speech, lauding the work of the team.
and especially Pete. The latter modestly accepted the gift, and received the hearty congratulation of the players of both teams. Pete was quite taken hack, for it came as a tots.l surprise to him. The. local club had ten men to beat yesterday rather than nine, for it seemed that the. limn. Mattv Fitzoat-

the latter p-oScd the pill directly through third into the bleachers. He must have been tiring at the coach for Moil was just coining in from left field, after having tried for the foul. Then Manager Ilofn-.an entered a lengthy complaint with I'jtzpatrick. Score : South Chicago.
