.ludpe Roehford of th Marion county superior court, decided several days apu that the j.iw encte.1 by ir,.- 1017 legislature Kivme women the riiht to vote
for all offices not created hy the constitution was unconstitutional and void. The appeal will be tiled with the supreme court ths week. It ts the hope of all parli-s to tie suit that the supreme court may hand down a final decision in time to inform the women of Indiana whether they shall have the right to vo e at the comitie city and town elections throughout the slate, which will be b.dd in Nov .ruber. Lawyers say Judpo Rochford's decision affects only the city election in Indianapolis and town ('lections in Marion county towns, because the jurisdiction of his court is limited to that territory. Therefor -, both part its are going ahead with then piatis to have women vote in tiie remainder of the state. But, while Judge Rochford's decision will not be binding on other places it will probably have h certain desire of influence, and in case the women vote at city and town elections and later the womarr suffrage law js knocked rut by the supreme court theie miKht arise complications in n.Kard to results of surh elections.
YOM KIPUR. The Great Atonement Day Celebration by the Jewish Community. At the setting of the sun Tuesday. September the twenty-fifth, the Jewish
I people throughout the world, will beirin
the observance of the holiest day in their religious calendar Yom Kipur (Day of Atonement) is the jrreat Fast of Israel. It is Judiasm's Sabbath of Sabbaths, and it has a firm hold on the Hebrew, because its noble poetry appeals to his soul and gives voice to his faith. Atonenent is effected by humhlinK oneself before God in sincere penitence, in abstaining from all worldly pursuits and pre-occupations; by a day of devout devotion, and thus fully feel the Krief of sin. and the beauty of holmes-, and the wisdom and imperious need of the correct life. The devout Israelite spends the entire day in synagogue. "For a day in thy courts is belter than a thousand elsewhere (Paalms CPXXXIV. V 10). A memorial service in memory of the departed, including- those who have rendered great services to humanity, forms an Important part of the solemn atonement service. The Beth-Al congregation will have services Tuesday. Sept. 25lh. 6:30 p. m.
with the Hammond high school boys
and art- at Fortress Monroe. They asked to be lemembered to their Hammond relatives and friends.
Tuesday afternoon at two-thirty o'clock. It will be a patriotic meetitiK and the work of the lied Cross will be explained by Miss Patterson, Mis. ilrove and Mrs. Big per. The children of the grades will mve the program.

VOICE OF R E O R L E
SOME DID NOT GET 6 PER CENT Gary. Ind., Sept. 22. Editor Times: As a reader of your paper, and I believe it is the best in Gary, but the newsboys don't seem to have it half the time What I want to lelH you is. that'10 per cent raise that you had in Tun Times is a pipe dream. The last raise the men working in the steel mills you had in your paper 10 per cent, but some did not get 6 per cent. Your reporter could find out if he asked some of the men that work around the engine room or the men at the blast furnace, and I suppose it will be the same this time. The Steel Co. report is that it cleared over $144.fiOO.OOO in three months. What I Kunt to say is this, the men working in the heat this summer could not get a water hoy, they were told they must keep down expenses and get the water themselves. Is it any wonder there is an I. W. W.? Couldn't blame th-s men to belong. In a certain kind of work at the blast furnaces there are 15 or IS men working there for years, all Americans, paying for their homes. dM not get 6 per cent because the boss knew they would stay on the job because he knows they can't do anything else." while he don't forget his friends and they get all that is coming and then some. I beg your pardon if 1 have taken up too much of your time. I could tell some more dope, but you might be tired already of this letter. Wishing you best wishes. ONE WHO KNOWS.
