Happenings of a D3y In Lake Counts s Lively Capital
(Special to Thb Times.) CROWN' POINT. Ind., Sept. 23. Mrs. May Krost, wife of Mayor Edward Krost, had the misfortune to break her ankle on Sunday morning when her husband accldently ran Into her when he was backing his car out of the garage, being unaware of her presence at that time. She was taken immediately to Wesley hospital in Chicago, where she will remain until her complete recovery. ' On Saturday evening, when Elmer Meyer and a friend were driving to town, his horse and buggy were run Into by the driver of a Ford car. The buggy was completely demolished, but the cocupants escaped Injury. The car (kidded into the ditch and the driver made his escape. Mr. Meyer secured the license tag and reported the affair to the city police. Sunday was an ideal Autumn day end Crown Point was visited by hundreds of machines from Chicago and faeighboring Indiana and Illinois cities. No serious accidents were reported. Several machines were ditched on the Cedar Lake road, but no one was hurt-Mi-'s Frances Grimmer and Lillian Schmidt have returned from a lihort visit with friends at Laporte. Jr.l. Herbert Beilifeldt of Chicago spent Juajay with his father. R. G. Beilileldt and family on Sunday. Ai.Siut thirty-five members of the tTOwn Point Christian Endeavor society were delightfully entertained by the members of the Gary society of the First Fresbyterian church on Sunday. There was an informal reception for guests at 1 b'clock followed by dinner, and a business meeting In the afternoon. Miss Phoebe "Westbay delightfully entertained a party of young ladies on friday evening at her home in honor Cf Hiss Myrtle Stillson cf Loa Angeles. Cal., who Is visiting relatives in Crown Point until the first of November. The party was also in the nature of a farewell as Miss Westbay, accompanied by Miss Belle Corstens of Lowell leave on Sunday for Jacksonville. Fla.. where they will teach the coming: year. Clifford Sherman, a member of Uncle Sam's military organization and stationed at Detroit. Mich., is sprdlng a few days with Mr. and Mrs. George Sherman. A negro from the north end of the county died at the Poor Farm on Friday, and the remains were brought to the Geisen mot-sue to prepare for
burial. The central committee appointed by President John Brown of the Library board and composed of the following persons: Mescfames J. C. Gibbs and W. H. Keeter and Messrs. W. II. Nvton end V. F. Heighway, have appointed their respective committees and are all in readiness for the campaign to raise funds for the soldiers beginning on September 24th and lasting a week. The amount to be raised in. Crown Point Is $200 and it Is to be hoped the citizens of this city will respond to the appeal of the different committees who are drafted by the government for this work. County Superintendent F. F. Heighway and his assistant county supervisor. Miss Johnson, attended an institute at Gary on Saturday in which sixteen teachers from the three towns of Griffith, East Gary and Miller attended. Miss Cora Mitchell of the Letz Manufacturing company has returned from a short visit to Chicago.
