Crwn Point was visited by hundreds of automobiles on Sunday, the day being an ideal one for motoring. Several serious accidents were reported. At this writing the report has come over the wire that five persons had been killed at Schererville, Ind., being run into by a fast train, t'ndertaker Geiser and the coroner had been called to the scene of th accident, particulars of which cannot be known at this time. A bad accident also occurred at Cedar Lake when a big Chicago touring car was completely demolished in collision with another car. No one was seriously hurt. lir. and Mrs. Wayne Dyer and family of Kankakee. II., were Sunday visitors at the home of W. L. Allman Miss Ann Maney will leave next week for Northwestern university, where she will attend school the cc rain g year. Miss Marie Schuelein of Chicago, spent Sunday with Crown Point friends. Miss Myrtle Stil'.son of Los Angeles, Ca!., is making an extended visit with frown Point relatives and riends. Miss Si ill son ormerly lived in Crown Point and has not been here in four years. She will remain here until November 1. A large crowd" of Crow n Foint people attended the dedication of the new Catholic church at Turkey Creek on Sunday. Bishop Alerding of Fort Wayne, assisted by Rev. P. L. Guethoff of this city, end several other priests assisted in the ceremonies, which were attended by a large audience. August Zimmerman and three sons of I'ammonJ, spent the week-end at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Adonic. Earl Fauser of East Chicago, attended the dancing warty gilen at Central Music hall on Saturday night. Mr. and Mrs. G. D. Clark and Mrs. GRIFFITH Mr. and Mrs. Frank Orsborn and family will move in a few days to DeMott. Ind., where Mr. Orsborne will run a restaurant. Mrs. Joseph Miller 1.1 very low with inflammatory rheumatism. A trained nurse is in attendance. Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Eastwood and family have left for Hooker, Pa., for a two weeks' visit with Mr. Eastwood's parents. William Miller, another of our soldier boys, arrived home Friday on a sixday furlough. Will is stationed at Washington, D. C. Charles Miller, who has also been home on furlough, started on his return to his regiment at Washington today. Lew Harkenrider returned to his company at Fcrt Harrison. Thursday. All the boys are looking fine and are in the finest of spirits. Thursday morning an elderly man was found lying beside the road on West Main street, about a mile west of Junction avenue. Vernon Parry have returned from a short visit with Chicago friends. Roy L. Parry of Gary, visited with his mother, Mrs. Wm. Parry, on Sunday. The fire dapartment was called out at 1:30 Sunday morning to the George Sherman building at the Panhandle depot. The building is occupied by Win Case. By the time the f.ro company arrived the flames had gained quite a headway, but were soon extinguished with but little damage to the building. There will bo a caucus of the Peoples' Party held in the town hall Friday evening Sept. 2S for the purpose of nominating candidates for trustee of the first and second ward, town clerk, town treasurer and marshal. Four men. all foreigners, were arrested here Friday afternoon as suspected auto thieves. The one who was unable to get away was taken to Crown Point Saturday afternoon and placed in the county Jail. He refuses to give his name and claims to be unable to speak the English language. The two Overland cars which they are suspected of having stolen are held here at the Frally & Psltzhoover garage. Both cars are practically new, one having been driven 674 miles and the other 1232 miles. Both carry Ohio licenses, one No. 322237 and the other 322266. One of the cars is badly smashed. The west-bound track on the Pennsvlvania Railroad was blocked here

This Stock is for Traitors." There has been placed on the Government Square in Cincinnati an oldtime instrument of punishment, the Public Stock, bearing the legend, "This Stock is for Traitors." Anyone whose utterance or conduct i3 a bit too unpatriotic will be asked to sit in it for an aftrnoon or more. Tha young man in the picture is a good American and has not offended but merely consented to sit in the stock to illustrate its use.

Saturday morning on account of a freight car being off the track in front of the local station. The rear axle of the car broke as they neared town, which caused the car to be thrown off. The tracks were torn up for several blocks. Joe Machlic of Gary, visited here for a few days the past week at the home of Mr. and Mrs. S. Trees.
