(By Inlted Press.)

PARIS, July 25 (by mail). Paris as one of the world's great seaports of the future la today more than & idle dream. Ever since the Seventeenth rentury the idea of a seaport Faria has been occasionally discussed' by learned

Frenchmen and approved as highly advisable. But It has taken the big

war to develop the plan so that today it Is a potent possibility. The war has demanded the absolute necessity of

providing Paris with a navigable waterway direct to the sea. so that

ocean-going ships might bring their cargoes into dock at the French metropolis. The "Paris Seapcrt' scheme has been handed down from generation to generation, with additions and modifications on paper. Then came the great floods of 1910 when whole quarters of Paris were Inundated and traf

fic was suspended ror days. It was

then definitely decided that a canal system must be built to relieve the

main stream in case of new floods, and the idea of widening and deepening the Seine was also considered. Today the Prefect of the Seine has issued circulars to the municipal authorities, outlining a definite and new scheme for rendering the Seine navigable for big shipping from Paris to Rouen and proposing that a port b built at Gennevllierres. outside of Paris, with easy access to the capital.

Every can of food put up this summer helps male- food shortage next winter impossible.
