Hammond -went Into the lead in the race for the City league flag yesterday by walloping- Wnukegan for the second time, 5 to 2, before nearly 4,f00 fans in the Hammond ball park. Halaz was hammered hard all the way. Kenning held the lasers to fix scattered hits, while he drove in thro of Hammond's runs with a triple and a single. -.- Henning drove in three of Hammond's runs with a triple and a single. Sensational fielding by Mstil and Hofman for the home team subdued Waukegan en several occasions. Waukegan counted in the first on Jacubek's double and an error. In the second Most:! singled tind was forced by DeLave. Hudson doubled and both scored on Henning's three-bagger. A single and a double by Mokate gave the home team another tally in the third. Waukegan got one of the runs back in the sixth. wh?n Jacubek singled for his third hit, stole second and scored on another hit. In the eighth DeLave opened for Hammond with a walk. Hudson singled and Henning followed with another blow, counting "Tacks," but Hudson was caught at third. Kavanagh's hit counted Helming for the final run. Waniegaa.

(Special to Ths Times.) COLD WAT ER, MICH.. Aug. 20. In a bcut that lasted 2 hours 414 minutes. Curly Davis of Hammond defeated Mat Matsuda. the jap wrestler. Both men were covered with blood. Davis secured a toe hold on the Jap seventeen minutes before the latter gave up. The men were Iven a five minute rest. Davis was back In the ring and waited twenty minutes before the Jap's manager returned and announced Matsuda could net continue, and the referee gave the match to Davis.

A tremendous crowd saw Ralph De Palma win all three of the three-cornered automobile races over the.Sheepshead Bay speedway track today at distances of thirty, twenty and fifty mile?. Louis Chevrolet finished second in the first two ev-nts, but after being compelled to stop twice to change tires he withdrew from the third congest. Bahney Oldrleld, the veteran speed king, experienced considerable difficulty with the engine of his "Gilden Submarine" and after ra ing a couple of laps in the first two events was practically cut of ea;h content, although le continued to go around the track until both races were completed.
