Since early spring Indian. Harbor has had a recruiting office with pood, live men successively in charge. If the enlistments up to date were to be taken imo consideration in the redistribution of the quotas for the districts of Li'ke county. East Chicago's assignment would be very small indeed, innsiiiuch as nearly four hundred have been sent out from the of! ice in that part of the city. This is not the esse, however. Only those that inlisted up to the. time the conscription law passed or shortly aft(r w ill I taken into consideration in thia reassignment. All that the city wants is a fair deal anil ith officials will be satistied with the reduction that l-Eiii.iiately comes in the correction of I he error. Simultaneously with the information that wil come to Last Chicago, letters will be received by the other subdivisions of the county, outside of Gary, advising them of the extra men that will have to bo conscripted from these subd'.v isions. Just us soon as the official figures relative to the various quotas were made public. Captain A. P. Twyman. of Co. This was apparent because all of the members of his company whose addresses were Indiana Harbor were le,ft out of Hast i'hieaso credits. CITY flF GARY MOVES FOHJBETJEH RATES Issues Petitions Asking State to Cut Water and
Light Rates.
Formal petitions issued by the city of Gary, pursuant to orders of the common council, asking the Indiana Public Service Commission to compel the I'nited States Steel Corporation's subsidiary, the Gary Heat Li0'ht and Water company, to reduce its water, pas and electric lisht rates were issued for i rc;'ti ion today. It is the wish of Mayor n. O. Johnson and the common Ci't.nci! that 0"r,:-"j:n"! s sign the petitions. Have Two Phases. The petition is de ided into two phases. One part represents a protest against granting any increase in rates to the Indiana utilities company, but it is made only a local issue on the grounds that the Gary company would benefit and that it gets its products frorn the steel corporation and thus is enabled to hae them at a low price. Rates of the company were termed exorbitant in the council the other night, and the commissioners a-e asked to order a reduction s that the people of Gary will at least enjoy rates as low as they art in most Indiana cities. Mayor Aids People. Mayor R. o. Johnson is determined that Wall street shall n...t inflict exorh tr.nt rates on the Gary steel workers. As was shown in The Times the other day the city of Gary, which pays Trt.OOO a year for light and water Is charged $75 for each arc light while Hammond pays only $52.50. Th? mayor toid the council that Garyites must pay four times as much as Chicago people do for water. And it a;i comes trom the same lake.

The next two floors will lie used for offices, and the next four floors will be fitted up regardless of expense for a high class hotel, with a roof garden One of the best hotel men in the country lus been secured to take over the hotel. The upper four floors will be above surrounding buildings ami will give every room ample air and light.
