the regular service and the general belief that the service la not in need of men to any great extent since the draft has been put Into force. We (recruiting offices) are still open and will continue to enlist men as volunteers for the regular army despite the draft. Any man between the ages of 18 and 40 who has not been nntlfed to appear for physical examination by the conscription board may volunteer his services. The understanding that the government does not need -men Is entirely wrong:. If there ever was a time when this country needed loyal patriotic men to defend its rights and liberties it is now. The excuse that a man has a good position or home Is the very reason he should volunteer and protect them. The regular service offers numerous advantages. A volunteer can choose his branch of service and work. There is not an employment that the government cannot offer a man a position in A mechanic can work for the government as a mechanic, an engineer as an engineer and so on. Firemen, clerks, cooks or bakers, electricians, tailors, barbers. In fact the army is calling for men in every line of endeavor. The aviation corp is being filled rapidly with expert machinists, clerks and mechanics of all kinds. Another advantage offered men in this vicinity is that this office has

been granted the prlvHcye of pr.lirt.nK squad of boys, from two ti lM, and guiianlee to kp them together. Thev wilt be sent to Fort Benjamin Harrison for training, making it easier for them, ai they will he training In their hom state and can secure furloughs home oftener. Yesterday this office sent four men to Ft. Wayne. They were Chauncle Iloff and Robert Hoff of Hammond, and Toney Dedloff and Walter Dratwa .f West Hammond.
WHAT AILS THE BO YS ANYWAY? (Continued From race One) from which a new list could be made for the board. It has been definitely settled that when the Indiana national guard goes into Federa1 service next Sundav it will bf serf to Ft-. Benjam n Harrison at once and ktpl. there i n til it is serf to the training camp at Hattiesbuig, Miss This will be about the r.itt purl of :?e;ueniber, it is thought Already the location for the camp of the Indiana national guard at Fort Benjamin Harrison has been selected, and everything will be in readiness to receive the troops when they arrive at the fort. The name of the man who will be appointed commanding officer of the Indiana brigade, with the rank of brigadier general, has not yet been announced, but it la believed that a regular army officer will be picked for this omportant position. Two of the names heard mentioned In this conoeetion are Col. Charles Hedekin. formerly of Fort Wayne., who has been in the regular army for many years, and Col. Slaven. who was born in Indiana but entered the army from Missouri. Whether either of these men will be picked, however, no one here knows. It Is believed here that the rules surrounding the examinations and the granting of exemptions of men called under the draft law will be considerably relaxed, sc. that fewer exemptions may be granted than would be required' under the present rules. Most of the men who claim exemptions do so on the ground that they are married and have persens dependent on them. It has been ruled by the war department, however, that the fact that a man is married is not of itself a sufficient ground for exemption, unless It Is shown to the board that the wife has no means of her own and that there are no relatives with means who could support her In the absence of her husband. If this rulmg la enforced, and there is every reason to believe it will be, many men who claim exemptions will fail to obtain relief.

FRANKFORT Frank fort is dry. So when Edgar Ward, charged with intoxication, told the city court Judge in reply to a question that he bought his liquor "at several places around town." the court was considerably surprised. "Where do you think you are?" queried the judge. "Why. in Indianapolis, of course." Ward replied. "One dollar and costs," the court ordered, after the shock had passed. SEYMOUR Seymour bakers have announced an increase in the price of bread. Five cent bread is now a thing of the past and the price per loaf is now ten and fifteen cents
