TIMES FASHION
MISSES' DRESS. By Anabel Worthington.
A frock that is "different" is sure to appeal to the niodern young miss who is always in search of -arietr. This one lias several novel features to bit it distinction. There are short panels of the material at front and back which extend down as far as the hip line to meet the pockets. The pockets are very large and hang loose. Underneath these panels the two piece skirt is gathered to the slightly raised waist line. Narrow belts of the nintprinl covet the seama at the sides. The square collar harmonizes well with the pockets. One may ebonite either the ton? tight fitting sleeves or the short f lies with cuffs. The drei-s pattern, Xo. S.104, is eu in sizes 1, IS and 20 years. Width at the lower edge is 2'4 yards. As on the figure, the 10 year size requires 4 yards of 36 inch material, with yard 30 inch contrasting goods. To obtain this pattern seed 10 cents to the office of this publication. Individual Bookmarks. A good idea for a simple little gift for a book-lover is to make a personal bookmark. It is made by embroidering either the initial or the name on a strip of linen, which is then finished with an edging of lace. This bookmark is too thin to injure even the most delicate book, it may be laundered and thus kept Immaculate, and it clings to the paper and so does not 6lip out as cards or metal markers are given to doing. Castles In tho Air. If you have built castles in the air, your work need not be lost; that is where they should be. Now put the foundations under them. "Take the Chair." When one moves that So and So take the chair, especially if he is a Scot, he should remember that at one time each a thing was considered a right royal luxury. In the middle ayes a table was only a board on trestles, there teas only one chair at the head of the board, at which the host sat, the rest of the company sat on benches. This custom was the origin of the .expression referred to. .
Man's Mind .Like a Garden. A man's mind may be likened to a garden which may he intelligently cultivated or allowed to run wild ; but whether cultivated or neglected, it must, and will, bring forth. If no useful seeds are put in. then an abundance of useless weed seeds win fall therein and will continue to produce their kind. James Allen. Oldest Tin Mines. The tin deposits in the south of England are the oldest known workings in the world, and perhaps those that were next discovered and opened were In Saxony and Bohemia. It Is believed that the mnnufacture pf tinplate, or, as it is sometimes called, "terne-plate." was begun in Bohemia early In the seventeenth century, that it spread from there to Saxony, and it was introduced into England In the latter half of the seventeenth century. Leave Well Enough Alone. Tilly "Pro going to see if I can't get that sullen chap to come out of hia shell." Billy "Don't ; he's a pretty bad egg." Town Topics.

Apples M06t Valuable Fruit. The tipple is pre-eminent in the , household economy for no other fruit excels it in culinary usefulness. It graces the table In a far greater variety than any other fruit. Of all fruits grown in North America, the app'e leads in amount and intrinsic value. No fear of an overproduction, however, if the means of transportation and distribution are perfected. What if we do raise 123.000 carloads of apples or 02,000,000 boxes a year? This is but half a box to a person not counting what we export. That isn't very many. Exchange.
Fifty-Fifty. Passing a hnnd over his forehead, the worried drill-srrgeant paused for breath as he surveyed the knock-kneed recruit. Then he pointed a scornful finger.
