Fish Not Rightly Named. The snbleflsh, or black cod, is not a cod at all, wMI" on the other hand the fish variously ouiled oel pout, eellng, ling, cusk and numerous other names, everything except Its good old English name burbot. Is really closely related to the cod. Tfce sableflsh is a deep-wa-'

it has been regarded as a nuisance and thrown back.

Tho Golden Rule. What is known as the golden rule In morals, is the rule laid down by Jesus In the sermon on the mount, and stated by him to be the law and the prophets: "Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them ; for this Is the law and the prophets." (Matt. 7:12.)

Dyke 40 Miles Long. One of the great dykes of Holland Is 40 miles long, starting far up in the country, near the YsHel river, and continuing across the Hook of Holland to the sea. It was built in sections, and for seven centuries has held back the waters from the low-lying fields. It is 40 feet broad at the base, 85 feet broad at the top, and its height varies from 25 to 35 feet.

Time Will Tell. , "Alice, darling," he whispered, as mushy as could , be, 'Tm the happiesf mnn nllve to coll you wife, but I'm afraid I'm riot good enough for you." And it took him only two years of married life to prove to tier that he was right.

The Formative Years. In the Woman's Home Companion

a vwriter says: "Fathers must realize.

as well as mothers, that the tlrst nve years of the child's life are the most

imoortant in the child's development.

It is then that he is most formative, most impressionable; It is then that he needs most serious and careful

thought from both parents. And if

the child' is properly handled through

this period, half the battles of the fu

ture man in the child are won."

Absence Explained. A schoolteacher in the . Philippines received this excuse from an absent pupil: "Dear Teacher: A thief stole father's clothes -last night. Father put on all of mother's garments so he could go forth and chase the robber and mother is wearing everything else in the house except my. hat. I will come back to school as soon as father catches the thief."

First Circular Saw. According to British technical publications, the first circular saw was invented by one Murray, a wood turner at Mansfield, England. The first saw of this kind was about six Inches in diameter and was used on a wood turning lathe operated by water power. .
