L CHiGA n A greater East Chicago but a greater East Chicago under a greater name was the. slogan sounded at an informal session of the city's board of works at the city hall Monday afternoon. "This city is losing thousands of dollars worth of business every year," CoL V. J. Riley, "because of its conglomerate name." "To give it one name, a name big enough and broad enough to cover all our territory without any quibbling would be the best advertising stunt that we could possibly pull off," said M. R. Schock, chairman of the board. "Change the whole thing and the metropolitan press would herald it around the globe." It would give us added power within the city ij the prejudices due to this double name were eliminated. It would .immeasurably increase our prestige and Importance throughout the country: and best of all it would give us a united city." "Wickey has advanced for several years the name, Indiana. Indiana. Mr. Wickey was before the board on an item of business and immediately warmed up to the subject. . "Just the thing." said he. that name and this city will become in name as well as in fact the greatest city in the state, bar none. As we are now, with our rrestige outside divided into parts, we never will amount to anything. As a matter of fact, neither end of the city is really on the map and never will be. Indiana Harbor has no existence as a corporate city and never can be widely known.
