Thomas Dubrick was arrested at

Officers Janos and Morris on a charge of assault and battery with Intent to commit murder. Dubrick fired five revolver shots at Mike Jansky, all of which failed, however, to hit him. Dubrick was released on $300 to appear later for trial. Steve Gotrlch, arrested for having no lights on his bicycle, was released upon furnishing $15 cash bonds. The marriage of Miss Amelia Sell of the East Side, and Jack Grumhard of Chicago, will take place next Saturday and will be attended by several Whiting and Robertsdale relatives. The funeral of James Gillman was held Sunday under the direction of Undertaker Heyden. Services were preached by Rev. S. C. Rogers at the family home ln 119th street. Interment was at Oakhill cemetery ln Hammonfl. The deceased is survived by his widow, two daughters, Mrs. Adrian Mathews and Mrs. Beji May, and one son, Lee Gillman. Mike Tuska of Steiber street, age 30 years, was arrested on the charge of not registering. Yuska Is being held by the Whiting police to answer the charges placed against him.

Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Schmitz celebrated both sons, John and Alexander's birthday Sunday. All had a delightful time and John and Alexander received many beautiful presents. Out of town guests from Chicago were Mr. and Mrs. A. Morgenweek and son Joseph, Mrs. Stolz and daughter Elsie. Mrs. Kropp and Charles Penshorn; from Hammond were, Mrs. Jacob Fox and daughter Florence, Mrs. Dawsen and son Hugh. William Adler was hit by a C. I. S. paesenger train, south-bound, Monday morning. The accident happened while he was returning home from hauling milk. He did not hear the beH or the whistle until he was on the track. By pulling the horses to one elde the train hit one horse, killing It Instantly. The lad escaped without any injuries. Mr. and Mrs. Peter Scheisser of Hammond, spent Sunday here with the latter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Rohrman.

A meeting of the Red g-oss society will be held at Kammer's hall, Wednesday evening. Judge McMahan of Crown Point, will speak. Everybody is Invited to attend.

A large number of machines passed through here Sunday but no accidents Ere reported. One arrest fr violation of speed laws. The Dyer high school reports the following proceeds from the various entertainments: Tom Thumb Wedding, $9.55: Dyer High School play at Qyer. $24.70: Dyer High School play at Schererville, $20.25; commencement erj erclsee. $16.20. Total, $70.70. This money will be used to purchase a stereoptican for the school. This lantern will be ued in the class room. It will also be a source of great interest in the community. Sunday, towards evening, a machine coming from the south repotted to the marshal that they had been hailed and stopped about a half rr.ile from town by some autolsts, and for no causa or reason whatsoever, were givtn a sever beating, the assailants even using the butt ends of revolvers. A number started in hot pursuit but were not successful ln arresting the evil doers. Friday evening a meeting was held in St. Joseph's hall for the beaefit of the Red Cross.
