In a very short time, large number of experienced and inexperienced help will he needed for haying and harvtstOareless Use of Soap Spoils the Hair Soap should be used very carefully, if you want to keep your hair looking its best. Most soaps and prepared shampoos contain too much alkali. This dries the scalp, makes the hair brittle, and ruins it. The best thins tor steady use is just ordinary mulsifled coeoamit oil (which is pure and greaseless). and Is better than the most expensive soap or anythingelse you can use. Oone or two teaspoonfuls will cleanse the hair and scalp thoroughly. Simply moisten the hair with water and rub it in. It makes an abundance of rich, 'creamy lather, which rinses out easily, removing every particle of dust. dirt, dandruff and excessive oil. The hair dries quickly and evenly, and it leaves the scalp soft, and the hair fine and silky, bright, lustrous, fluffy and easy to' manage. You can get mulsifled cocoanut oil at any pharmacy, it's very cheap, and a few ounces will supply every member of the family for months. Adv. .... i i

Motion yard today noon, while p. F.. Boone addressed the Saloonkeepers' association. 'Die slogan now is: 'Give Till It Hurts a Little." Th. big outstanding feature of the war fund drive In Hammond is the general ri fiponse that has been given to the appeal. Hammond a fund does not I-, present a limited number of large individual subscriptions: there is no luge on t?t. tnrmg amount from any single source, but the fund Is made up

of many small subscriptions and pledge coming from every class, and from every section of the city. There are probably about S.000 to lii.oort heads of families or wage earners in the city. From present indications the war fur.d subscriptions will show a total of between 7,000 and 9.Oiin individual s ibscrlptions. There is no' better Indication of the popular re.Nsponse than these figures. It means that Hammond is standing a sa unit and every fami.y is doing its bit to help take care of our soldier boys. This Is as it should be. More is needed than the support of a limited few. It is necessary to have the unified support of every individual to insure the necessary work of the Red Cross being successfully carried on. It means too, that the war fund will represent not glfta of convenience, hut gifts of self-sacrifice. Small contributions of the wage earners, those who COLLECT THESE PORTRAITS. Every week the Chicago Sunday Herald is giving away a portrait of one of the aval or Army Officers of the I'nited States as a supplement to its newspaper. Next Sunday there will be a portrait, size 8 Inches by 11 inches suitable for framing, of Vice Admiral W. S. Sims in command cf the American Navy in Huropea water. These portraits are being eagerly collected. Make sure you secure your set by instructing your newsdealer today to deliver the Cljlcagc Sunday Herald to you regularly. 6-22-1

Campaign work i-i Hammond is now reaching its climax. Noonday meetings ;are being held in practically every in-; jdustry and short talks are being made fat the various theatres. There are In-' numerable individual workers canvass-! ! ing" the town so that every one will j I have their opportunity to give. Many are not waltfng for solicitation, but are going voluntarily to the headquarters at the Chamber of Commerce and offering their subscriptions and invariably asking for additional pledge cards in order to secure same friend or neighbor they do not think has contributed. Last night an excellent (meeting was held at Munster and a meeting has been arranged for Highlands tonight. The thousands of pledges and contributions which are being received is swamping the headquarters. Addi tional helpers are volunteering daily land even then it is dificult to keep up jwlth the amount of detail and clerical work necessary. It will probably be well along next week before the total amount of contributions can be exjactly computed as the flood of pledge j cards will increase with every hour j until the campaign cleee. one or the marked Indications of,the general respnse that is being given comes in the reports from the various industries. At the Simplex an enthusiastic committee has succeeded in securing pledges from the employes amounting to over $1200. The Betz employes have neariy reached the $1,000 mark and the pledges are still com- , ing In. At Gibson over J1200 has been 'subscribed. Rig returns are coming In (from the Monon and Erie yards. and . Reld-Murdoch & Co. In fact, from every factory and industry in the city is doing its share. I There, probably never was a move ment in Hammond which is getting more loyal and enthusiastic support, not only from the thousands who are contributing, but especially from the various workers, all of whom are getting into the harness in the most enthusiastic manner. This has been a matter of continued comment at headquarters, and Chairman A. M. Turner has been particularly gratified with the fine spirit which has been shown by everyone connected with the work. It would mean a bunch of mighty disappointed workers if Hammond should fall down and fall to reach its mark. Three Points about Our Coal High In Carbon assuring quality.
