CITY LOSES BEEP IIS INJUNCTION
The supreme court of Indiana yesterday reversed the derision of "the Lake county circuit court and knocked out for all time the city-wide deep sewer system launched by the board of public works of Hammond, November 19, 1913. For five years Hammond lias marked time, waiting for the deep sewer system which was t. re 1: eve lamentable' conditions in the, downtown district as well as the outskirts. The deep sewer syste n wi'l never be built. The condition .still exists. Only by the construction of the deep sewer system in sections under separate contracts a intthoJ which the supreme court decision appears to favor can the lonij needed improvements he made. To follow this plan the city has to wait on the initiative and petitions of property owners. The deep sewer system as first plnnnel was a million-dollar Job which the I'nited Const'u.CoM Company a union of the biggest contractors of the city was formed to hike care of. The plans provided for a t f ilrrat ion and sewaco disposal plant and for power to operate the street lights. Opposition developed and the beard rescinded action after a suit. had. been entered by the Anti-Sewer; association and in the spring of 3 ! 1 4j started the project anew, eKminritii e the filtration plant. The contract was awarded to the United Construction Company, June 3, 1914 for $:!). 735. l." u-in I a bond of $2S.0 put up. The Anti-St wcr association started injunction proceedings and Special Judsre J'aulis in the circuit
court found, for the construction company and the city two years ago. The antis appealed to the supreme court which reversed the decision of Judge Faults, announcing the action yesterday.

Corldn, chairman o!. the Hammonl chapter of American i Cross, and sri .trici'mctrs were made so that within fourteen days the Hammond chapter would ha-.e a civilian relief commute. The duties and obligations of tliia committee are to take care of families who have soldiers t the front and ate in need of assistance.
