'Pete" Hennins killed the West End s aspirations of stopping Hammond's winning streak Sunday. He allowed but three hits and struck out eleven men and aided in the scoring of five runs. The visitors' two successive doubles in the fifth inning scored their lone tally. Parduhn. Ousts Howard. Vp to Sunday Hammond had won five straight games, yesterday's win made it six and it was played under a new management. Owner Paul Parduhn ousted "Bill" Howard from the managerial job and put Frank Fowler, a veteran player of Hammond, in his place. When asked the reason of the move Parduhn said: "We agreed to disagree. Besides he has been losing money for me. Last Sunday I lost $300 through him. On account of the weather a week ago Suncay I telephoned him at South Chicago to -see Joe Green, manager of the Chicago Giants, and cancel the game. He didn't see Green and the Giants came out. Howard felt that we should play after I had cancelled the game. We had an argument and a few days ago I fired him." Howard's side of the story is: "Parduhn called me and I tried to find Green. I came out to Hammond and asked Parduhn if it wouldn't be Tetter to play and split gate receipts with the Giants. This way he wouldn't have lost money. We came to words and I told him if he had an advisor he thought better than
I to make him manager. Parduhn has never co-operated with me. I have done all I could to give the people first-class baseball. It has cost me more than he paid me." Fowler should make a capable and popular manager. He has played ball with Hammond teams and had charge of many teams in semi-pro and league plaj about the country. Although there is a division among the fans, some thinking Parduhn untactful for discharging Howard after he had led the team so far this seascn without a defeat, it is hoped that the

BATTLE HEAVY BETTING AFFAIR
When Sailor Freeman and Joe Bishop clash in the semi-windup of the boxing show at Racine Friday night probably the biggest betting semi-windup match ever staged in these parts will be in full swing. About $2,000 will charge hands on the outcome. Ghetto followers of Freeman are backing him heavily to beat Bishop, yet as fast as a Freeman dollar appears It is snapped up by the Bishop admirers. Tommy Thomas and several of his friends yesterday invaded the Freeman quarters with bankrolls seeking takers. Some was placed, with offers to take the balance later. There is a lot of interest in this battle to say nothing of the bitterness. It's truly a grudge affair and will bring a host of fans to Racine.

The Telephone Operator Rarely Knows Who Called Your Number PERHAPS to day, in response to a ring of your telephone bell, you were answered by an operator saying, V Number, please?" and you were surprised to find no one calling you. It is probable that the person who originated the call hung up his receiver before you answered, either because he remembered that yours was not the number he wanted, or. because you may have been a bit slow in answering and he did not care to wait. In such a case the calling person's line, as well as yours, would be disconnected by the operator who originally received the call, and it is most likely that, when you responded, you were answered by a different operator, who had no knowledge of the call, and who courteously asked you to excuse it.
