FOUi BUT (By United Press CtI8rram.) WASHINGTON', May I9. Another startling German riot was revealed liefore the hous interstate commerce committee today. Secretary of State Lansing disclosed the fact that 'Germans or German officials" attempted shortly before this nation's war declaration to involve th-i United States in iiiTere:CF3 with England, and France through organ 'rat of a Wg steamship I'orrnny that was deli'.f ratei to violate foreisa trading: with the enemy. The p!ot is now bein R investigated by the department of Justice upon authority of reliable government information. lansingr told the committee. Secretary Lansing. Secretary of Commerce Red field, and Assistant Attorney General Warren, author of the bulk of the war legislation, appeared before the interstate commerce commission today in behalf of the Adamson act which prohibits trading with the enemy. Lansing said Germany sent spies to this country before the war to organize a steamship company. The agents loaned Americans money to buy grain witlr the understanding that they place, the grain aboard ships. Germany hoped in this way to cause trouble between the I'nited States and the allies over seizure of American cargoes. AUSTRIAN LINE IS SLOWLY TURNED BY JOHX II. HK tRIEY. ROME. May 9. The southern wing of the Austrian line was beinff slowly turned today under tremendous leverage of Cadorna's full force of arms, exerted westwsrd on the Hermada plateau, north of Duino. Duino itself, bounded on one side by the Gulf of Trieste, is now surrounded on two s:des by Italian troops and all but detached from the Austrian hold. The Italian fighting; I re Is in sight of the town's ruins. Capture, of Duino was momentarily expected this morning. With this point in Italian possession the way will be opened along the coast for advance on Trieste a way comparatively flat, as opposed to the mountains to the north. In aucb an advance guns from British boats in the gulf will be of great ass'stance. The Italian advance was concentrated on this salient today and fighting- was continu ing with great violence. On the remainder of the front the battle was mostiy of Austrian counter-at tacks, the enemy striving, to relieve pressure to the south by pushing at the Cadorna lines elsewhere along the front. Smith from Washington that the Indiana troops will be the first to be equipped. This will be the case because of the fact that Indiana has been the first state to complete arrangements for all war nergeney measures as well as having been the first to supply its allotment tf men for the regular army. In view of the fact that Indiana men are to be among the first to go to Europe, and the fact that especial attention be given to equipping them at the earliest possible moment, it is urged b' the adjutant-general that men who are liable for military service volunteer at once in the home units. If men will volunteer with their home organizations now they will be sure of seeing service with their friends. If they wait to be drafted they will either find themselves in the unpleasant situation of being among a few drafted men in a large body of volunteers or else they will be sent away from home to be trained among strangers in new units." Coney Castle before and after its destruction. The destruction by the Germans of the Castle of Coucy, "the most perfect example of the medieval fortress," is declared to be the greatest act of vandalism that the Germans have yet committed. The famous old Telic, which had been respected by warriors since it3 erection more than five centuries ago, was not razed because of military necessity, but simply to satisfy the German war lords who are determined to destroy everything possible in France that has either beauty or utility.

This suicidal habit may cause lockjaw and women are warned to stop it. - A few drops of a drug called freezone applied directly upon a sore corn gives quick relief and soon the entire corn, root and all. lifts out without pain. Ask the drug store man for a quarter of an ounce of freeione, which costs very little but is sufficient to remove every hard or soft corn or callus from one's feet.
