In the court of Judge Hardy at Hammond, in tha case of the State versus Alex Kish, joe Fuiy, Joe Sanzyl and Steve Simhalmaa, George. Wikswo, an East Chicago policeman, is the prosecuting witness. The charge against the defendants is assault and battery with intent to kill. MeAleer is the attorney for the defendants and Oonroy is assisting Deputy Prosecutor Thomas for the state.

DETECTIVE FIRES ON ASSAILANT Investigating. Ave shots that wore filed along th Pennsylvania tracks in Indiana Harbor, Officer Makar of the Harbor station, found that the firing had been done by C. Ream, a Pinkerton, detective, detailed from tile Chicago office to service at the American Steel Foundries. Ream said that he was standing near the tracks and from a slowly moving freight train some one tired n. revolver at him. He got the location and returned the fire but docs not know what the results of his fusilade were.

WANT THEM TO MARCH AS UNIT The members of the Red Cross, Fast Chicago, are requested to march as a unit in the big Memorial Pay parade that is to be held in the city on Wednesday morning. Members of the order are advised to meet at the Chicago avenue bridge at 10:30 a. m. on that day and to wear the apprapriate Insignia. Arrangements have bee.n made to give instructions in regard to this insignia at the city hall and at Luken'a drug store tonight at 7:30.

The sad news reached here Friday of the death of Mrs. John Mtehews, which occurred yesterday at the home of her son In Chicago, where she has been residing since the death of her husband, which occurred about six months ago.
