FATHER OF HAMMOND MAN PASSES AWAY FRANK FORT, 1ND., May 25 By the death last night of Alfred A. Baylrsg, 95 yean old. Frankfort jniea ita oldest cittien and one of the Tew remaining: pioneers. Mr. Bayleas was a contractor here when the city was young. He built the Coulter hotel., the Third ward school and several of the downtown business structures. He came to Indiana in 1833, settling: with hts father near Lafayette. The journey with his parents from Ohio was made by boat and oxen team. In 1S45 he went to Lafayette to work on sashes that were to contain the first plate grlass windows ever used In that city. On Christmas day, 1847. he was working In Ijafayette, unheading barrels. He was to receive 100 pounds of pork tenderloin, or l a day for his wages. He chose the dollar. The family came to Frankfort In 1ST". The widow and four children, Mrs. C. B. Sine of Indianapolis; Sylvester., of Memphis; William O. of Hammond, Ind. and Miss Iura. who is reporter for the circuit court here, survive.
